It depends on what temp you're incubating at. I incubate at abouat 81 and my eggs take 8-9 weeks. At 88, it's significantly shorter. If you're incubating at a higher temp the egg is either just about ready to hatch. If not, it's possible that either the egg was never fertile, but just looked good and there is always the possibility of fetal death.

If it is still soft after a month it is probably infertile. It will swell up twice the size of when it was first laid when it is about to hatch. But it might be fertile as fertile eggs are soft when they are first laid. I do not know how long they stay soft but I do know that eventually they will get harder. Eggs take anywhere from 36 days to 110 days depending on how hot they are incubated at. Hotter temperatures they will hatch quicker. I hope this helps you and good luck when it hatches.

Sometimes when it is deflated looking it is just dehydrated. Try giving it more humidity, close a lid on it.

i have only had a handfull of eggs laid and hatch, and a few that didn't hatch because a few were infertile and 1 was tipped over thanks to my ferrets. what I have noticed is that eggs that are white and plump up are good ones, if they are overly soft after a the first few days or look grey, greenish or slightly yellow, they are not good. in this photo there are 2 good eggs and one bad egg, I will give you a hint, the one that is a different color is the bad one, Egg #3

now these are my latest babies to hatch out. if you look at the top egg there is a little "window". I know I read about it somewere online but I could not find the article about it. but within 24 to 36hours of that window showing up I had a baby leo!

all of my eggs have been incubated for females, from 79 to 83F. I use hatchright and because the deli cups I use to hold the eggs in the incubator came with pre-cut holes, about once a week I cheack the bedding and add water if it feels crunchy or hard...I started doing this after I had an egg start to dry out..the egg was saved and I ended up with Tempest!
I hope this helps at least a little:)
