removing a UTH

I currently have a leopard gecko in a 10 gal terrarium. I am using a UTH for heat obviously. I am thinking of moving him into a 20 gal long terrarium. I know on the label that it says you should not attempt to remove the heater and apply it to another tank, but I would rather not spend another $30 if I dont have to.
So the question is, has anyone had success with removing one and putting it on another tank? If so, how did you do it? Thanks

Turn it off and let it cool. Then just pull it off (don't pay any attention to those warnings). When you install it on the new tank, it won't stick. Tape it on. The best tape I've found so far is called "Nashua Tape" made by covalence adhesives (website given as Bottles, Containers, Closures, Overcaps, Drink Cups, Consumer Products, Tubes, Prescription Packaging and more Berry Plastics Corporation). It's like duct tape except it's aluminum foil with adhesive and a backing. I have tried electrical tape and duct tape and they both eventually sag and come off.

If you're not careful, you'll bend the UTH and the wires inside. They're flimsy wires, bend and break easily. If the wires don't break outright, you might at least put a kink in one or more, causing hot spots when it's plugged in again. Those hot spots could overheat. Maybe you should make sure your home insurance is up to date.

Next time if you are getting a heat mat go with t-rex cobra mats that way you can change easy. I also like them because you can take them off if you need to clean the tank.
