feeding leo too much?

Excuse you?? Telling me I'm not feeding my gecko properly?? I fed her crickets when she was younger, and tried roaches. She didn't like the roaches, they made her PUKE and gave her DIARRHEA!

So, I'm the bad mommy, huh? Yeah. Let me tell you. I'm SOOOO going to give my gecko something that makes her SICK.

And don't cross examine her diet. I'm at the vet TWICE a week because this girl is too picky! She has a mixture of vitamin supplements she has to take every day because she can't absorb vitamins efficiently like a normal gecko can.

silkworms, butterworms, and superworms are enough as a healthy well rounded diet. I add phoenixworms for the protein.

It's enough, not the best!!! Try to see the nutritional value of silkworms, butterworms and superworms. First of all, superworms are very fat and isn't the best for the leopard geckos because they have a low nutritional value. All the insects have a diferent nutritional value and all the insects are good to 1 thing at least. Like waxworms, are good to get geckos fat, to hatchings, to gravid females.

SHE GETS WHAT SHE NEEDS!

NO!!! She gets almost the low that she needs!

Ron Tremper feeds only mealworms. You going to bash him now??

Yes! If you had more than 3000 leopard geckos what do you gave? Crickets? How many crickets do you need if each gecko eats 5 every other day? The mealworms are the easiest to take care.
He is the biggest leopard gecko breeder BUT (in my opinion) not the best!

The point is you SAID a gecko can't be obese. Point blank. They CAN'T BE OBESE. But then you say they can?? Don't be redundant!

All the animals in the planet can be obese IF eat fat and low nutritional food like mealworms, superworms and waxworms and many more.
BUT, if you give him the best quality food and a well-balanced diet every day your leopard gecko isn't obese. Your gecko GiGi is very beautifull but he is very fat (If it's possible I want to know the weight) but isn't giving food every two days that he goes get slim, is eating best food like crickets and other food that don't have much fat like the food you give.

My leopard geckos eat crickets, roaches, mealworms, waxworms, phoenix worms, all that can move! AND eat every day. If you want I can put here some photos of one.

Of course you can overfeed a Leo. People have there own opinions. I can see yours but your Leos may be seriously in danger of obesity if you feed them a lot of food every day.

Did you tried anytime giving every day? Try and you will see that your leopard geckos will not eat every day but every other day. The leopard geckos younger will eat every day but the older no. Try.

My geckos are very healthy if you want a photo say! You only give mealworms? Yours geckos will get problems in the bones because mealworms don't have the proper nutrients.

Okay, okay, okay... rglove, if the insects that are being fed are properly gutloaded, and if you are dusting your feeders (with vitamins, calcium, etc) there is no problem. Sure, adding variety to a gecko's diet is good. It keeps their interest in food up and hopefully in some basic way they appreciate it but by no means is somebody a bad keeper if they feed only a few of the wide variety of insects that Leopard Geckos can consume.

Allee is feeding some wonderful insects. Silkworms, hornworms, and superworms are all great feeders and if that is what works for her and keeps her gecko healthy and happy there is no problem. And GiGi does not appear to be obese to me in any way. She looks great, especially considering all that Allee has to go through to keep her healthy. Kudos, Allee.

Yes, you can overfeed any animal. As the old adage goes, there is such as too much of a good thing. Leopard geckos are built for retaining weight so it is hard for them to lose it (considering they are healthy and parasite free) so it is important to keep an eye on their weight. Again, I will say, though, do what is best for you and your animals but I'll also add to not tear someone apart when they're doing a good job as it is. Just because its not how YOU would do it doesn't mean it's terrible and wrong.

Do you think that is good? My younger leopard geckos eat about 15 mealworms on the days I give.

Yes it is good enough. My Leos are in great health with things that i provide them with. And only right now I am feeding meal worms but I will also feed crickets once a month to provide the right nutrition. The reason I don't feed crickets all the time is that there much harder to raise than meal worms.

And you said your younger Leos eat 15 meal worms! That is ridiculous! He is probably going to have an unhealthy life.

Actually, Shawn, when mine were young they would eat 15 meal worms or more every night. They are not unhealthy at all.

Thank you. I work hard to keep her healthy.

rglove--
As for her weight, you'll know that Tuesday after the vet visit. I'll even PM it to you. And she's not fat. Not in the least bit.

When my geckos were younger all they have eaten about 15 or more mealworms every nights. You give half and every other day. That's not suficient in my opinion.

Again-- SHUT YOUR MOUTH. We've stated that JUST BECAUSE WE DON'T DO WHAT YOU DO DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE WRONG. Get over it. We're not changing. You have a very nice and healthy gecko. We're not questioning YOUR method of feeding. YOU are questioning OURS. YOU ARE ATTACKING US! We all have healthy geckos. So drop it and move on!!

It's only to explain that he, not you is feeding less than the gecko needs or it's only my leo that eats so much.

Do what you want. It's your geckos but you need to lesson more about this and pay more attencion on what people say.

Answer only to this question:

It's your geckos that don't want to eat more or you dont give?

Listen I DON"T GIVE. There's is nothing wrong with that. I want to manage how much he eats, not give him as much food as he wants. What people say is there OPINION. It's not a TRUE fact. So stop acting like your way is the ONLY right way. My way works to and if it didn't work my Leos would be dead. My way works! And I do pay attention to what people say. You seem to don't because your repetitive on what you keep telling me. I've read this thread thoroughly many times so please stop bugging me that my method of feeding is wrong. Thank you

Like I saw, you only overfeed leos when you give fat food like wax worms. Your leopard gecko will be old and will not eat what he eat now! When he get older he will eat 5 mealworms every other day and need to be fat to live! That fat is from the younger times. When younger need to eat much to grow and grow and grow. Don't knowing the age of your gecko I think that his lenght isn't the correct because you give less than he needs to grow all he have o grow. My Hypo/high yellow lavendar (stripe) has only 8 months and is 25 or 26 cms (9 inches almost 10). He is growing very well and has the adult lenght and he isn't still adult. When your gecko has the age of mine your will weight 45 grams, thats the minimum weight for that age and mine now has 67 grams.

What he will not eat is what he will not grow! And you can only put the gecko obese if you give fat food and you don't give!
I don't know whats your problem but I think that is $$$. You don't have money to give more to your leos? It's what it seems to me.

It's good to know the lenght and the weight.

It's only my opinion and what am I? A noobie. Try o talk with the best breeders and they will say to you: Feed as much as your gecko wants.
