ambient temp

The slate substrate in my leo's tank is plenty warm enough, so I know he is getting his belly heat, which I know is most important. My question though is about the ambient temps.

On the cool side, it is around 75. However, on the hot side, it is only getting to around 80-85 at most. I am currently using a 50 watt bulb with the lamp sitting directly on the lid. Is this ok? Should it be warmer?

In my g.vitatus tank Im using a 75 watt bulb sitting about 4 inches above the lid and it gets to like 90. (When I rest it on the lid it gets to almost 105, so I dont do that). So im thinking if I use a 75 watt on my leo's tank it will get to hot? Any suggestions?

Try it out.

There's nothing wrong with setting it on the lid. It doesn't hurt the screen. It may cause some warping though.

You want to aim for 90 and 80. If you need to switch the lamps to get it there, then you need to switch the lamps. =]

I switched the lamps. Now both tank's hotsides are topping out at 90. Thanks for the advice!
