Gave GiGi her intramuscular (sp?) shot, now she won't stop bleeding...

Help?? She bled for a second on the outside, then on the inside she kept getting more and more purple!! Now the whole area behind her arm is full of blood. What do I do?

I didn't even know I hit a vein! I did the poke in, suck out the top to see if you hit a vein, and then push the top in. =[

Will she be fine?? It's like a little bubble of blood. And it's a lot. For a gecko's size it is at least. She's bled about 1mL.

ahhhh. The poor baby. I'm freaking out.

Uh I dont know. The best thing to do that I could think of is to apply pressure to it with a tissue or paper towel if she will let you, to try and stop the bleeding. Or maybe you could use a small bandaid if you have any, but I dont know how the adhesive strips would feel on their skin when you peel it off.

I applied pressure when I saw she had a little red bump of blood. I stood there for 5 minutes, it looked like it stopped bleeding. But I guess I didn't apply the pressure quick enough. I can see the blood in her body cavity now. It's out of her arm and side, and moved into the cavity. It doesn't seem to bother her, but I moved her tank into the living on a storage box with wheels. So I can take it with me everywhere. I'm a little bit too worried. Lol. Especially since I did it to her. =[[ My poor little baby. I'm making bread pudding to distract myself and eat away my sadness. Lol.

!!!!!! Oh no poor Gigi! SO I'm guessing the bleeding has stopped??!!?!? Oh I hope she's ok! Idk but I would watch her closely and make sure she's eating, pooping and everything else the next few days. Maybe even call the vet. But hopefully everything will turn out ok and keep us posted!

I hand feed her, so she always eats 1.5mL's every other day and .5mL on the opposite day. And she's only been pooping when I give her the shots. So she hasn't done a typical poo since Tuesday. So it's kind of hard to make sure she's regular.

Is the blood in her cavity going to hurt her? The bleeding has clearly stopped on her arm (her skins white and paper thin so it's easy to see all her muscles and veins).

I guess it depends where the blood ends up, but if it's stopped bleeding then her body should break down the blood and she should be fine. Kinda like a bruise I suppose.
I kinda freaked out earlier because I imagined poor Gigi bleeding...but I think she'll be fine. :coverlaugh:

Lol. Thanks. It's just hard dealing with death. My mother passed when I was young, and then my grandparents passed three years ago, and my little sister passed on Christmas eve two years ago, my father disowned me before I was born, my adoptive parents got divorced and I went from house to house, my childhood cat was my only real form of emotion, then he got hit by a car. So I can't handle anymore death. I've been through enough shiz in my life. All I have is my Fiancee and GiGi since I moved across the nation from the small town I've known since I was 4 to a big city where no one knows me.

Anyways. Enough emotion. GiGi seems to be doing a little better. I don't let her close her eyes. Lol. I don't want a coma to induce. Even though I highly doubt it will happen. But you never know. I need to keep that little tiny heart alive!

I'm crossing my fingers for you and Gigi, too! I am going to go with Cat_named_Noodles and the bruise theory. I just had blood taken a few weeks ago (yearly physical) and it left a horrible bruise on my arm that lasted for over a week... Maybe that's all this is, and because she's tiny and reptilian, it looks a lot worse than it is.....

I'll think positive thoughts for you and Gigi! I'm a firm believer in The Secret!!

I think she's going to be fine. She's sitting on my shoulder and climbing to the top of my head through my hair forming tons of knots that I'll spend an hour brushing out before bed right now. So she's back to her normal self. I can't see much of the blood anymore? It's weird... I wonder where it went?

Eek, that sounds scary.

When I had to give Loki inter-muscular shots I was instructed to do it in the base of his tail, where the muscles are larger. I didn't have a problem with this site (except for keeping him still.)

Allee, sorry to hear all that crazy stuff has happened in your life. I can't imagine what it's like going through all that. But it sounds like Gigi will be fine. Her body probably broke the blood down and re-absorbed it. Ooo, I bet the vet would've loved pictures. lol

I tried calling him. He's usually quick to answer! But he's away on a fishing trip and not answering his calls. He comes back tomorrow morning. So I can't call him and ask until tomorrow.

Base of the tail? I was told front left or right arm. They said the arm is the only place they can receive shots. Go figure. Lol. Her arm is so tiny I think I might of poked straight through the vein and caused two holes.
