cleaning repti-carpet?

I read that I could just throw it in the washer and the dryer. Will the laundry detergent bother my geckos though? What is the best way to clean this stuff? (preferrably without buying overpriced terrarium cleaner at the store, if possible..)

I fill my sink with boiling hot water, then sit the repti-carpet in it for half an hour. Then throw it in the dryer.

I throw all of mine in the washing machine with a *tiny* bit of detergent, run them through a rinse cycle twice then throw them in the dryer.

I wash mine with hot water until all the debris is off.
