Agave Nectar?

Have any of you tried this for your day geckos?

May be a stupid question, but I cant find any info on this. Day geckos love nectar, right? So would commercially available agave nectar be a suitable replacement (obviously not as a staple diet, but as a supplement in the way that fruit is used?). Please tell me if you think there would be any problems with this.

Again, this may be a stupid question but if you don't ask, you don't learn. Over in the UK it seems to be pretty rare stuff, I hadn't heard of it until recently.

While I am unsure about agave nectar, I do know that mango & bannana nectar are okay.

There is a great product out there called herbamed. I have been using it for months now (after wasting so much fresh fruit week to week) and my geckos love it.

I wouldn't use it at all personally, if anything a few drops to sweeten up medicated diet maybe. It's basically pure fructose and nothing else.

Sounds like a feed for hummingbirds. You'll need something with more substance then this nectar, see if you can get just a few pieces of fruits instead.

:banana:i have this stuff for my own use but also am using it as part of a day gecko mixture with bannana or mango fruit puree and calcium and bee pollen, i mix together my geckos love it..even cresteds!:biggrin:

Of course they love it, it's like straight sugar water. Doesn't necessarily mean it's good for them.:idea: If you put an extra scoop of sugar in a fat kids koolaid, they'd love you for it too, probably not necessarily a good thing though.

I use it for making ****tails as a substitute for simple syrup. And occasionally in my tea.

hiya, this is true ..very true...! and i certainly dont want fat geckos this woul be no good at all :roll: !! and mine arnt as yet thankfully !:biggrin: however i will say in the wild they lap nectar from floweres and plants ...ok not huge amounts in one go as there is limeted amounts i would have thought but nectar is practicaly all sugar and water as well as nutrients ect, they also like over ripe fruit and lick at rotting bannanas and other fruits , hence the fruit puree we feed and this is of course producing plenty of sugar in he natural form of ...fructose!! argarve nectar is practicaly all fructose according to the ingrediants so a little drop or two wont hurt your geckos mixed in with there fruit and pollen mix ..try it, honestly its not a bad thing as i wouldnt give it to them if i wasnt advised to in the first place :shock::banana:
