Are they capable to survive the hibernating my Leopard geckos?

Hello to everyone! (i have introduce myself here -->http://www.geckosunlimited.com/community/getting-know-you-introduction/44484-hello-everyone.html)

I am planing to put my couple (female and male) of Leopard Geckos Normal for hibernating in this winter but they are juvenile i think.Now i will write you their body characteristics the male is 39 grammars and his length is 20 centimeters the female is 34 grammars and 20 centimeters length both their age is 14 months.Someone said to me that i must to do it but i think they are juvenile for this.I want your opinion and experience about this and what to do.In addition i have them from the 10th of July of 2009 and i feed them with tenebrio molitors and Blaptica dubia.Thanks a lot!​

Many people do not cool their animals for the winter.. so you don't HAVE to (it isn't bad for them not to). Some people cycle adults for breeding, even though that is usually unnecessary as well.

Are you leos in separate enclosures? If not, you might want to separate them before they decide to breed and it causes complications for the female.

Thanks for the reply :yahoo: my leos are living together because i have not see any battles between them even the time of feeding ! but if it necessary for their good health i will separate them as well for the future because i want them for breeding!

Yes, you don't want them breeding too early (Female is definitely not the right weight to be bred!). Early breeding can potentially cause a lot of complications that are easily avoided by separating them. It will also reduce stress on both animals and you will be able to keep a closer eye on their individual health.

They're over a year old and they weigh that little? None of my geckos weigh 30-something grams beyond maybe 6-7 months of age. I actually would not recommend hybernation, since it seems like they could use the winter months to gain weight. Remember that females should weigh closer to 50 grams before they breed.

How much are you feeding them? And what are your temperatures? It just strikes me as really odd that they would be that old and weight that little :/

I completely understand, I know how expensive the euro is and how much imported things cost. If you can put them near something warm that would be better for them, even if it's normal lamp. Or if you can afford those packs that you can microwave for sore muscles and maybe wrap it in a towel and put it in the tank with them, I think that might be beneficial.

I would also feed them more often. 5 days between feedings is a little too much, since they should be eating every day or every other day. And if you're having trouble keeping everything together I recommend maybe giving the geckos to a friend who might be able to take care of them while you get some money :/ I know it's tough but it might be better for everyone.

Finally i found how to keep them warm ! As i have said in introduction forum i have an iguana , so ? Because the iguana needs temperatures until 37*C now the winter i have put in one ceramic lamp to keep the temperatures normal also the cage is made from glass and the upper side of the cage does not have any things so i put the 2 leos into a pet carrier with their hides and their water dish(it is a pack that you can transfer you little sized pets with safety everywhere) on the upper side of cage !!! and now i have temperatures always 33*C-91,4*F !!!! i am very happy!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Great Glad to hear that. Once they get warmed up try seeing if they'll eat more often, and try to give them a couple roaches every day or one day yes, one day no. That way they should gain their healthy weight and be ready to breed in a couple months.

Ok! but for this 2 weeks i did not think to use for heating the upper iguana's cage side??? fortunately i thought it...!:yahoo::banana:

PS: Is my way feeding (Blaptica dubia and tenebrio molitors) proper , i mean that it is ok this diet-variety ? because i give them only 2 different foods!!

Hello!

I would say that this diet is appropriate and twice as diverse as the diet of some reptiles in captivity. As long as you are feeding your tenebrio and Blatta a good diet, and giving calcium and vitamin, you should be doing good.

Thanks for the advice!!when i give them their food i always dust the food with this product because it is for carnivoroushttp://www.everythingforpets.com/images/prod/3/prop_1_39116.jpg i think it it proper you ? In addition the calcium and vitamins should i give to blaptika and molitors ? if yes how is the way ?

They ate!! the one ate 13 tenebrio molitors and the other one ate 10 tenebrio molitors !then i put them buck to use the warm place for their proper digestion !(they ate after 2 weeks)

Great! Continue with the heat and more food and you should see them get big, fat, and happy in no time!

The diet is great for them. Some people don't like using mealworms as a large part of the diet but I've had nothing but success using them. And roaches are very good for them. But if you're worried about a little diversity every once in a while you can get other types of worms, but their diet is good as it is.

Hello again , i was thinking to give for food to my leos the Melolontha melolontha

that i found them in the soil in my garden note that we do not have any insecticides and fertilizer.Also i found 68 Lumbricus terrestris (earth worms) are they good food for my leos ? if they i will start breeding them it is so easy to breed !

I wouldn't give wild grubs to your leo. If you keep them, then breed them sure. But wild insects can carry parasites along with other bacteria.
