I got my first amyae and levis yesterday! Yay! I'll start with some pics first:

Both of them ate already; I was shocked at how fast they strike the prey (is it ok if they ingest some sand while striking?)! I have a problem though, some roaches seem to go hide in the wood as soon as I put them in the cage. The knobtails can't get to them and the roaches won't come back out at all. They freak out if I pick up the wood to retrieve the roach. Any tips on how to do it?

Another thing is, the levis male waves his tail alot, he kept on waving his tail while pacing around his tank. Is this normal when they're still settling in?

Normally the roaches come out at night . i don't feed lots of roaches mine get crickets and locust (and other insects) . I do feed dubia but mostly i feed them out of my hand .
Tha tail waving is perfectly normal , this is part of the settling . When they feel stressed or in"danger" they will start waving their tail .

Congrats on the new geckos! I believe ingesting some sand is fine. Mine seem to get a little bit each time they feed. They shake most of it out, though. I suppose it may depend on the type/grade of sand being used. I would like to hear thoughts on this also...from more experienced keepers.

Thanks for the replies, Rob and Paul.

I wish they would take a dubia from my hand one day. I still have not touched either of them! I had been lurking in a dark corner secretly watching their activity under a dim red light, but they mostly just hid under the wood, hardly comes out in the open. I hope they'll get used to me soon.

It takes a while before they settle down . My levis are very curious now , sometimes I have to push them back otherwise they would crawl out .
In the beginning they were also very shy .
