Hello everyone , "Crabby the survivor" My Land Hermit Crab, Passed away yesterday :( But i knew it was coming because since he came back from his recent molt , He was extremely lethargic ( not moving ) He wasnt drinking and eating alot , If any at all. Anyway , I now have a empty 5 gallons tank.
I would like to know what i could put in it now ? Temps are easily kept from 20*c to 30*C and humidity up to 90-95%.
Here a pic of the current setup but i can change it if needed.

And the light bulb wich is a 25 watts ( i have a blue one for night )

Any advices and suggestions are welcome. Im thinking about something different than hermit crabs. Yes i do love them but i would prefer something else.

Thanks :)

Here are some suggestions from my somewhat limited repretoire:
for a 5 gallon tank you would need to house something small and non-arboreal. What comes to mind right away is Coleonyx and house geckos or dune geckos. Check out the coleonyx forum.

Any other ideas ? I looked for the geckos Acpart told me but the Coleonyx seems really nice ( Looks like small leopard geckos ) but too hard to find here in Canada , House gecko they can climb really well so my tank will not be really suited for their needs and the dune geckos ( fan footed gecko if i;m right ) seems to hard to find too.

Any ideas are appreciated , Even frogs and other animals.

Look around on the net. From geckos i would say viper gecko. (Be aware baby vipers can move on glass even juveniles and you have to handle that.) From others, well there are many choices. I kept small freshwater shrimps as small as 1cm in such tank. If you filtrate the water that can be good. There is African Dwarf Frogs (Hymenochirus boettgeri) its also good. Prehaps not a nice creature but if you like amphibians it can be also good. Maybe some snail species

The main reason why i dont want aquatics in this tank is because i already have a 20G aquarium with some tropical fishes and 2 Albinos clawed frogs and a 5g aquarium with a betta in it. So i have 1 20G tank for my leopard gecko , 1 20g for fishes , 1 5g for y betta and now a empty 5g tank. I already have a Uth in it and wouldnt want to deal with buying another filter , heater and everything when i already have 2 of theses. Ill look on viper geckos but i never heard of those so ill check their needs.

Wow , For now that looks like a really good choice , they are easy to take care ( as i readed ) and stays small like i wanted ( 4 inches ) and most of all they are beautiful !

If you don't want aqautics, you could clean it out and set it up for an animal other than an aqautic. My suggest some kind of gecko. I have a leo. gecko, they are so cool!

Yeah thats what im asking for. Already have a leopard gecko and 2 aquariums. Would love another reptile , Even if its not a gecko.

Oh and i just came back from vacation. Lizzy is going well :) Im so happy ! I was worried that the guy that took care of her while i was gone just wouldnt do the job and/or play with it ( i didnt wanted her to loose her tail :p ) Or that he would be scared of the mealworms  . But im happy nothing went wrong. The temps were low when i got home ( 20*celcius ) But now that i heated the house ( we heat with wood ) everything is ok. I also added a red light bulb on a dimmer and a thermostat so the temps will never get low again.
This week i went to a pet shop, The biggest and best looking i ever saw.
All their animals had the required equipements , No tank ( Freshwater , Saltwater and reptiles ) Were over crowded and all were well fed. ( i can tell because i saw 2 adult leopard geckos that looked really healthy and were even a little bit chubby :p )
And i saw those EXTREMELY nice Crested gecko babies ! I fell in love with them. Soo much that i almost bought one , A new tank and everything he/she would need. But i told myself that if i want to move this summer i have to keep some money and retain of buying more animals because the transport wont be a easy job.

That is good that you can retain yourself from getting pets. I was at the pet store getting crickets yesterday with Dad and Brother, (we need a lot of crickets because we have 2 toads, they eat a lot, and a leo. gecko.) We were looking at the reptiles and one of the bearded dragons was going nuts for me, it would follow me around the cage, and stand on it's hind legs, so we could see his belly. A chinese water dragon went nuts for my brother too. They wanted us to bring them home, but since we just got my leo. gecko we could not get them.

I know what you mean, Even if the Crested geckos were half asleep i could hear their voice in my head " Buy me , Buy me ! " HAhaha

Yeah but finally im thinking of maybe just selling my old tank really cheap and probably get some crested geckos this summer after i move ( that is if my plans go well ).
I just feel in love with them, they were the first one i saw in real and i can say that no pictures in the world gives them justice :p Way better in person.

Yeah , The ones i saw were 130 $ and were only about 3 inches long ( Tail included ).
But herps as a hobby can be really expensive, Even in the Usa where the lizards and snakes are cheaper the tank and equipments are almost the same.
I figured out that i would need around 300$ to have a crested from nothing :yikes:

I love cresteds, but thats no need to get rid of the little tank! You can't EVER have an empty tank :) I got cresteds now, and it didn't cost so much to get them started. Yes, they aren't cheap no herp is, but they're cheaper than some of my other animals IMO.

For a five gallon tank, its really small, however you could put a few species in it. My personal favorite small-tank, low maintenance cool animal are the pacman and pixie frog. The pacman frog comes in a few color morphs and are just stunning animals! The pixies are a bit bigger, but still fun! The pacman could live almost his entire life in that tank, they don't move much, and then when it gets bigger all it needs is a little bigger ten gallon. These frogs get HUGE and are just eating machines! Eventually, they can eat little frozen thawed mice and such. Very cool.

However, I understand your amazement at cresteds, too. I fell in love with them after some research last spring. I got a huge 120 gallon tank free and made it into a huge crestie vivarium. They are very very fun to keep, and they are so darn cute! The five gallon could house a young one until it grows. Actually, it is better to keep younger geckos in close proximity with their food, so it would be very good.
