Lineatus and Fimbriatus together?

Hey!

I was wondering what everyone thinks about keeping these two species together. I would assume that based on size that the two would be OK, but aside from being hypothetical, can anyone affirm or dispute their compatibility?

Personally, I wouldn't mix them. Although they are similar in size the fimbriatus are still much more robust, and probably weight at least 1.5 times what the lineatus weigh. But aside from that, I don't think species should really be mixed unless you have a HUGE cage. I don't really think its a good idea, but I don't have experience with either specie.

I know that Columbia zoo keeps both species together and they breed both species with good resuts. They had a good amount of both species in a screen enclosure measuring about 6 feet tall, 5 feet wide and 2 feet deep.

Which other uroplatus have people had success mixing? Anything with sikorae?

i would imagine some people keep phants and ebs together,there is a "hybrid" on youtube which i assume is the result of such a pairing
im sure some people do with this genus but personly id never risk it,that may just be because of how rare they are over here but the risk of conflict would just make me nervous

I don't think you would have to worry about fimbriatus/lineatus hybridizing, they are found in similar habitat within Madagascar so I think it would be quite safe in that regard. They are also rather different body shape wise.

no i didnt mean the lineatus fimbriatus would hybridise,although that would be one crazy hybrid,lol
just saying that it has suposedly resulted in hybrids between phants and ebs,which i would have thought would be the most common uroplatus cagemates due to the fact they are so similar in size etc,
mixing species is contrevesial enough,let alone with such a genus,maybe its just coz they are so hard to source here but im not sure id ever risk it,
i would be worried about conflict between the fimbriatus and lineatus,as rhacoboy said i wouldnt rate a lineatus' chance with a angry fimbriatus,
im sure there is someone that will proove it can be done,i just wouldnt wanna be that person,(although i must admit,the thought of a huge "mini madagasgar viv" gets me salavating)
maybe wen i hit the lotto!

If you had a HUGE enclosure, say like the size of a small room/large closet or something and you could have several different tall trees/bushes/etc and could create the habitat that each of the Uro's need and give each specie enough space that it never had to come in contact with the other specie, there shouldn't be a problem but as I said before, it sort of depends on the cage size. The vivarium would have to be HEAVILY planted.

Are they from similar locations in the wild? I would think that their habitats would be completely different and that care would have to be as well. I wouldn't house multiple species just because I would want the care to be correct for each. I suppose it probably could be done though.

Leaftails are probably like most other geckos in the fact that they would be MORE compatble with other species then their own...

I am not saying that it is GOOD to mix species, I, personally dont like mixing the SAME species within the same enclosure...

Just about any gecko or reptile would be better off it was housed by itself...

No matter what size the enclosure is, there will always be one dominant animal...

I would imagine that it would be perfectly fine to house adult lineatus with adult fimbriatus as long as there was enough food to go around...

I would say that you would need a larger enclosure for a 1.2 group of fims than a 1.1 fims + 1.1 lineatus...Does that make sense;-)...

Intraspecific competition vs Interspecific competition...

As long as there is enough food there should be less of a problem with
1.1 fims+ 1.1 lineatus in the same sized enclosure then 2.2 fim...

I dont mix species, or even individuals for the sake of competition for food...
I raise all of my feeders and have no room for gluttons...the 2 adult melleri arent helping:roll: either...

As long as the smaller geckos are not getting bullied for food...
For the sake of convenience, go for it!
