Changing Colors

Is it normal for Leaperd Geckos to change color. One of ours has orange on its tail. It turned it whole body orange. THe other is kinda a greenish color and he will turn really green. Thier heads seem to get really almost floresent right on tops of thier heads. Is this normal? Why do they do this?

I know Blizzards and some patternless change color, light and temps have an effect on the color change also shedding.

Before and after pictures would help. If you got the gecko as a baby/juvi, chances are it was neonate marking and was just shedding into it's adult color.

As mentioned, cold temps can make them dull/dark in color, and warm temps can make them brighter.

No not like that. These two changed thier body color one to a deep orange and one to a green. When they noticed me looking at them they changed back to the original yellow. I sat still and watched them for a long time and they changed again back to orange and green. I thought I was crazy as I have never seen them do this before. I called my son to have a look and he saw it as well. Temp. was the same they are not shedding. They literally changed the color of thier skin and then changed back. I watched them change the color. I know how weird it sounds, I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this. I do have pictures I didnt post then due to taking them with the blue light for night was on. I saw this during the day light light as well but the batteries in the camera where not charged to get a picture. Here is a pic I took of the orange one. Usually he is the color of the bright pic last night it was turning orange. I was unable to get pics of the one that turns green. This all started when I purchased a grape vine and put it into thier habitat. They lay under the vine in the shadow and change color.

They don't change their skin colors. It might be a shadow over them that you're seeing, but they physically can't do it. It's not in their genetic make-up. They're not chameleons.

Very very strange indeed. I notice mine changes a bit form time to time from a yellow background to an almost white. It is not him shedding that turns him white, his skin is just very pale. But never as I have been watching him. It would be cool if you could record it or document it photographically before and after he did it.

Mine change alot.....I would believe the person that said they can do it but I have seen it with my own eyes more than once. The lizard that lives in my garden isnt a chameleon either but I have seen him for two years sometimes green and sometimes brown. He was brown today.
