hi every1 im new 2 geckos but ive been rasing/breeding turtles for 18 years, i just got hooked on geckos!! i understand temps/uvb/uva and basic care BUT i dont know how 2 pic out my first set, i dont know what 2 look for in color, markings, and temperment. my friend that got me hooked is a noobie 2 he has a red with black striped pair that just layed eggs, the guy he sold his car 2 didnt have enough money so he gave him the pair and cage for 400 off, he told me to get a pair of galeatus so we can trade hatchlings when there born, theres so many different kinds 2 choose from is galeatus worth buying??? and if they are how do i pick out a pair?? is dark colors good or light colors?? i know with turtles the color/markings can make or break the turtles value, i really need some1 2 point me in the right direction!! good lookin

Take a look at the forums on this site and look at the geckos that are pictured. Find something that looks interesting and then (either on this site or using google) read some care sheets. Care of different gecko species ranges from desert to tropical, from basking lamp to nocturnal with no lights needed. Some of the deciding points as far as what kind of gecko to get are: appearance, size of enclosure needed, environment that must be provided (including heating and lighting), ability to be handled (some are really look and don't touch species). Once you have figured out what you want based on the above characteristics, find a reputable breeder (you can start with the classifieds here or on other forums and then check them out on the Board of Inquiry at faunaclassifieds.com) and get your geckos.

Good luck,

Aliza

Hi ~

Welcome to GU! You have found the best gecko forum on the worldwide web, no exceptions.

I know that feeling of wanting to get your geckos right now. You are smart to wait till you've done your homework and prepared their habitat! Wish that all new geckos were this lucky .
