My Uroplatus phantasticus (first post)

Hello Everyone!
I'm a long-time lurker and thought it was about time I posted on this wonderful website! I just got my first pair of Uroplatus phantasticus last Friday. I drove 13 hours round trip so they wouldn't have to go through the stress of shipping. I've kept Uroplatus ebenaui for a little while now and immediately got hooked on this genus! I will attach a few photos! The second night I had them in my care the male had still not moved from the branch I put him on. I was a bit concerned but as soon as I put crickets in the enclosure he came to life! He ate five crickets right in front of me, even with the lights on! Here is a short video clip: YouTube - ‪Uroplatus phantasticus eating baby crickets‬‏ .
Best wishes,
Mike

If they are fresh imports, you might not want to feed them so much at once. The size of the crickets are good, but fresh imports need time for their stomachs to stretch. Only a couple crickets a night...even if they are still hungry. This is if the are fresh off the boat of course.

Thanks everyone! These aren't fresh imports. I picked them up in person from Armen. They are doing great Armen!

Thanks Yoshi'smom! BTW, I was very impressed with Armen for those of you that haven't had the opportunity to meet him. Very knowledgable and a great person. I really appreciate that he let these phants come home with me. They are so enjoyable to watch. I find that if there vivarium light is off they will still be active with the room/ambient light and I can watch them hunt and wave their tails at night. I assume the tail waving is some form of communication or maybe a hunting tactic to distract prey. Have there been any paper's written on this? The female is fattening up quite a bit and I wonder if she might be gravid. I'm going to buy some oak leaves to put in the bottom of the enclosure. As I mentioned in another post, I think one of my phants might have eaten some spagnum moss (orchid moss) and regurgitated it. So I'm removing all the moss and just using eco-earth.

Best wishes,
Mike
