dual level vivarium and hide diy

hey guys here is some info on my 3 story vivarium and the ledges and also the caves. i made the ledges out of an old computer desk ensuring that the trim on the wood was facing outwards from the viv this gives a better effect. i used fixing blocks and screws to attach the ledges to the walls of the viv.
i have leopard geckos in my viv and although they are a terrestrial species mine spend more of their time on the top level than any where else.
i also made some caves and hides i made these using excavator clay and a small amount of cement. i made the large one using a large container to mould the mix and then i turned it out onto a wooden board covered with plastic (this prevents the mixture sticking to the wood) for the other hide i used a tough cardboard tube to keep the shape of the hole and moulded around that.
try to keep the edges rough so as to provide traction this enables the reptile to grip easily. i also found that these caves hold heat very well when positioned near a heat source. If any more info is required then feel free to message me :)

Mine love climbing too some of them are living in a castle now. We've made our own climbing/cave areas. Working on an Egyptian Temple now for Bowser lol. You've got loads of places for them to explore and have fun nice job

Wow, mrleostar92,

Every time I look at your leo tank it gets better! I love the new "stairs".

Many thanks for posting your work on this subforum.

Only one comment. I have heard that the dial-type thermometers are quite inaccurate. You really could use a digital thermometer or a PE-2 temp gun. The latter are on sale right now. Check out my leo recs in a nutshell for a link to the temp guns.

Bowser's temple is finished - it took ages and was a lot of work but he seems to be enjoying exploring it and he's a lot more active now which has to be good. I think he was bored in his old set up.

OK, Debbie, how about a picture of Bowser's temple?

The hides are hidden but there are a quite a few the light isn't there now it was just so I could get a good photo. The castle is massive and looks much better in the vivarium. The gecko's all love climbing the tower esp Bowser when he was in with the ladies while we built the temple. There's a spiral staircase in the right hand tower. The moist hide is in the middle tower and there are loads of hides all over the place in that one too. They all love the left hand cave best and seem to spend a lot of time in there. Bowser is back on his own now in the temple.
