Could one of the mealworm haters explain this for me please??

You also said you collect your locusts and grasshoppers from your backyard. So maybe something other than nutrition is a problem. Parasites and other deleterious forms of bacteria could be causing a decrease in nutrient absorption. There are plenty of outlying factors here.

Yes, actually I do collect them from the wild, I didn't know parasites could be an option, I'll try getting him used to the roaches I breed myself, I am starting to be concerned, almost 2 months and he looks like a 2 week old!

I hope you managed to get the poor little gecko to thrive. My little tiny hatchling that wasn't growing is doing fine now and growing nicely she's still smaller than the other one but looking loads better and putting on weight. I really hope that yours will be soon too.

I don't care what anyone else thinks Mealworms are the way to go in leopard geckos period.

they are the best food available for them. I have been doing this for years on a large scale. i have tryed different things and it always comes back to the same thing mealworms that are feed the right thing are the best food item. *different species may require a different diet*
I feed some of the stuff i work with just crickets because they need the stimulation of the movement to get a feeding response.

if you feed the food item a large amount of fatty food yes that will go into your gecko. same thing happens if you feed the crickets high fatty food. what the food item eats is a direct correlation to what your gecko eats. this is why i feed my mealworms the vitamin powder that i use i don't feed them cat or dog food.

you have to look at it this way yes kids eating McDonald every day yes will be more prone to having weight and health issues. but if that same kid eats a steak, potato, and a vegetable will be healthier correct. with it being the same basic thing that the kid got from McDonalds only it was prepared differently. its the same concept. Not all mealworms are equal just like not all crickets are equal saying that they are is a very uneducated way to look at things. The debate should be what you are feeding your food item not what food item you are using.

That is my two cents

Another thing some geckos do need to be on a diet just like some people, even siblings will have different metabolisms. you have to take each gecko on an individual basis. if your gecko has fat behind the front legs it could miss a meal. you want a lean athletic looking gecko not a thin one and not one that looks like it should be on "the biggest loser gecko edition"

A gecko that is to fat can be just as bad health wise as a gecko that is to thin.
