Hello, all!

I've been interested in getting a couple of crested geckos for, oh, at least six years now, but haven't had the opportunity. However, I believe that will be coming up!

I have a 47g tall aquarium that I am going to convert into a vivarium. I've been doing a lot of research for the past few months and am on my way to being able to start my project after being pushed back from, oh, little issues like a pipe bursting downstairs last February, wind damage, and hail damage from this past spring and summer. The joys of Oklahoma weather!

When I graduated college six years ago, the first job I was able to get to put food on the table was working at PetSmart. I met my first crestie there and fell in love with them as a species. However, I will be making my crestie purchase at either the OKC reptile expo or the one in Tulsa after my vivarium has been set up for a while and I'm 100% used to its upkeep. When I used to keep domestic rats, I went through a show breeder in Texas rather than buying from a pet store. I don't like to support that side of non-specialty corporate beasts like PetSmart and PetCo. There's a nice herp store here called Alligator Alley, though.

I'll be sure to post pictures of my project while I'm working on it and once it's finished.

Hi thebluejackal ~

A hearty welcome to Geckos Unlimited! Nice intro...I like it ;-). Hope that you will soon have your cresties.

Are you planning to get mature cresties? A 47 gallon tank may be too big to start out with juvies, especially because two males should not be kept in the same cage and with juvies it takes awhile before they are sexable. Better post on the subforum devoted entirely to Rachodactylus ciliatus for details.

What is your name?

No worries, I have a couple of kritter keepers if I wind up with juveniles. I have that all planned out just in case because I'm not sure just who I'm going to pick up.

If I do wind up with two males, I will have to check with Alligator Alley to see if they want one or work through a friend of mine who does small animal rescue to get one placed. I don't want to make that mistake, either.

And my name is Carol. ^_^

Welcome Carol!! Good to see more people getting into geckos! They are wonderful! I agree with Elizabeth that if you get small cresties that your tank my be too big. One way to fix that would be to put a divider down the middle of your tank. Post pictures of the tank and little ones when everything comes together!!

I don't mind keeping juvies in other simple enclosures for a few months until they're adults. I'm not in a huge hurry and I want to do this right. ^_^

I'm wanting to have around three to four adults total in the tank when all is said and done.
