First captive bred L williamsi for me

Yesterday I found my first hatched L williamsi from a WC female who has been with me for a while.

It is a bold little thing. First thing it did was jump on my hand, hug me for my heat and made itself at home.

Immediately I could see that the enclosure I set up for baby L. williamsi was not escape proof. Spent the morning setting up and modifying a new one. The enclosure is a bit big and I worried he would be lost in it.

Nope. Within 30 minutes, the hatchling was playing King of the Enclosure covering every branch, plant, light spot, top to bottom.

I hope it grows quickly. Keeping pin heads on hand isn't easy. Tiny sized fruit flies will be needed.

This thing is so small I had a difficult time taking picutres. Camera kept saying "there is nothing there." I did manage some and will post them soon.

The article was right on: You don't know small until a L williamsi hatches. Energy level is atomic level. There is no enclosure manufactured for a hatchling -- think modification. Looks just like a female.

Congrats Leann!! :cheer: They are indeed quite small and quite cute when they cuddle up on us for warmth. But if you think they are small when they hatch out you should see the size of Lygodactylus grotei (formally known as L. capensis pakenhami)! :yikes: They are about 4-5mm smaller and their tail accounts for more than half their size. They can squeeze through 2mm gaps with their size. :O

The first days it will probably only want to eat the smaller fruitflies, but after a few days the pinheads will be okay too. Within a week you should be able to move up to regular sized flies with no issue. They can be quite the little pigs as well. Once they get a pinch older you will often find the little ones running up to the door to eat like they have not eaten in weeks.

Congrats!!!

I'd love to see pics of the enclosure you have set up for it. I've just purchased my first pair (CB) and am hoping for good shipping weather soon...

News on the little guy: he eats, and eats, and eats and eats (pinhead crickets and small fruit flies). Have to water 3 to 4 times daily as he is famished for water. So, doing very well for five+- days old.

I will work on a pic of enclosure tomorrow.
