Anyone have pics of a sameiti? Im trying to make sure a pair I have are sikorae and not the sub-species. Problem is I dont want to make them to open their mouth cause I dont wanna stress em out. They were not bought as a pair but both were sold to me as sikorae. Just wanna make sure thats what they both are before I put them together. thx

Only the color of the buccal cavity will help, though their size and pattern are also good indicators. Can't you try to feed them with forceps and a digital camera at hand? ;)

re: sikorae or sameiti

Im not that hand eye cordinated. I checked the male tonight and he is def sikorae. The female just started a shed so didnt want to bother her.

The sameiti are larger/longer...but if you had an immature one...size would not matter. The only way to know is to grab her...
The quicker you do it and the more you suprise her...the more likely she is to gape wider. make sure the area is lit up so you can see in her mouth.
You can also peak inside her mouth with a flashlight while she is chomping on a cricket.

Kevin, haven't I told you the moderators had the right to choose ONE animal from each member?
Man, it's a really beautiful specimen!

Thanks for the compliments, guys. No babies yet, but I just got him late last year. I'm going to pair them this year and hopefully they'll produce for me. The female is equally unique, so I'm excited to see what the hatchlings look like.

Yeah I'm sure they don't like it, but I've never seen any ill effects from it and I've had to do my fair share for sure. I'm glad to hear you got it figured out.
