Hi my name is Chelsea
My geko is called Freckle

I recently got a new Geko called Freckles I have had her for 2 weeks.

She's been eating crickets and locust for 2 weeks then went right off them 2 days ago which is so not like her.

Tried her with meal worms and she wolfs them down but as soon as she sees a cricket or a locust she runs away from them she's not been bit by any because I watch to see if she's eating well. The ones she don't eat I take out their and then.

Should I stick to meal worms or any other worms or keep trying with crickets and locust please help x

Hi Chelsea & Freckles ~

A hearty welcome to Geckos Unlimited! Freckles is a really cute name. After you post 3x total you'll be able to post pictures.

How old is she? Post a picture as soon as you can.

Could the size of the crickets and locust be too big? I think locust especially are pretty big and if she is small it might scare her.

Geko only eats meal worms

Hi it's Chelsea again about meal worms for my geko

If my geko only eats meal worms what should I use to make them healthy for my geko to eat and safe for her.

I have tried cutting the back legs up to the knee off she still won't touch them same with the locust  she will only eat worms.

Chelsea ~

Did you find the section in my caresheet which suggests all types of feeders for leos and different things you can feed them?

What to feed crickets and locusts?
Feed crickets/roaches food that provides no more than 20% protein and no more than 5% crude fat. Some choices are:

Chicken Laying Mash (from feed store): The label reads 16-18% minimum protein and 3% minimum fat.

***Dry oatmeal

Alfalfa hay -- for the 3 wo and older crix...Can be found at a pet store.

Collard greens -- especially recommended for high calcium-to-low phosphorous ratio & high lutein

Carrots -- natural source of beta carotene

Whole grain TOTAL -- General Mills dry cereal

Winter squash

There you will also find a link to Maurice Pudlo's gutload recommendations for many type of feeders.

Hi Elizabeth

I have a calci dish in my viv when I feed her do I need to dust her food because she already has calci dish.

I gut load all my gekos food sorces the meal worms, crickets, locust, with leafy greens and cucumber do I need to add reptivit wich is a vitamin and protine dust.

Can u tell me what I need to do because I have just been feeding her normal food with nothing on it because of her calci dish in her viv.

Chelsea ~

Best of all I'm glad to hear that you are providing your geckos with a varied diet. We are what we eat!

Is the calcium in the dish in the tank 24/7 pure calcium? Then you need a phosphorus-free calcium with D3 to lightly dust the prey no more than 2x per week and a multivitamin to dust with no more than 1x per week. There are more detailed instructions in my caresheet.

Feeder insects need more than leafy greens and cucumber :). Not all leafy greens are equal.

I don't recommend adding any extra vitamins or calcium to the food for the feeders. On my caresheet there is a link to Maurice Pudlo's recommendations on what to feed your insects. On the caresheet there are some basic suggestions on what I do. Just scroll through it if you don't need the other info. Made the caresheet more user-friendly a couple weeks back.

Check out post #5 on this thread :).
