Leopard Gecko Rango: Home Remodel

This morning I looked in Rango's tank and realized that while it was perfectly functional, it was boring. She was getting too big for her caves to be comforatable anymore, and the whole thing was just kind of blah.

So off I went to get new flooring and new caves for her to hide in. . I picked up some tiles from Home Depot, then at Petsmart there were these big branches on sale, so I grabbed two. I also picked up a better looking food bowl, since her bugs kept escaping out of the old one and turning up everywhere. I really like how it turned out, and it's just as nice for her as the old setup was!

My honest opinion. I suggest you buy your gecko larger hides instead. It is very important that they feel secure. I understand how you feel about boring. That's one of the reasons I despise small enclosures and refuse to deal with them.

I'm gonna break out the polymer clay tonight once the temperature cools a bit and make some better hides. The selection at Petsmart was very disappointing, and I think I can make hides that she'll fit in comfortably that I can slide under the branches so that they kind of blend in. :)

Love how professional his new tile floor looks! Is that slate?

I found a nice silk palm tree from Petsmart that provides some cover and interest for my leo. Also the Dollar Store has nice silk foliage.

Have you ever thought about creating ledges? Check out zelda's customized vivarium in the Naturalistic Vivarium subforum or at the tail end of my Leo Recs.

Yep, 5x6 slate tiles with a thin layer of fine sand beneath. I was concerned that it wouldn't get warm enough, but a little playing with the thermostat and it was fine, I don't know why I was so paranoid about it.

I LOVE the look of those ledges!! A project for another weekend I suppose, they don't look very hard to make...

Last night I added a second link to the post which follows my caresheet: Exemplary Custom Leopard Gecko Habitats. Kelly (Yoshi'smom) also did a great custom with very explicit directions.
