Leopard Gecko shedding and behaviour help

Hi, yesterday my gecko was rubbing against stuff to shed and it was pale. Today my Gecko was all colourful again but i did not see all the skin come off and my gecko eat it. Does this mean that it has shed? It is still running her head on the glass virarium and rubbing her body on it too. Is this natural?

Also my Gecko sometimes flinches and makes a noise or curls up and then flinches out and makes a noise. why is it doing this?

Thanks all

If he looks brighter than he may have already shed. Try to provide something a bit rough such as a (disinfected)stone in which he can rub against to start his shed.

I am not observing your gecko, therefore I can only guess he is feeling threatened when he flinches and is making a noise.

I've posted a pic of him here. He has a blue tail and orange/yellow body.

In this pic she's just lying there with her eyes closed. Does this mean that she's sleeping? I went closer to her and she opened one eye and the other was close and then i stroked her and her other eye opened. Is this normal?

How would you feel is someone pulls off your sheets and disrupts your sleep? I don't know about you, but personally this is how I would feel.:paddle:

Of course she is trying to sleep.

Hi all, she's lying flat in the floor. I have a habitat and I set that to 30degrees c so that does the trmperature by itself. I also have a thermometer next to where the heat mat is and it says about 31 max on that.

Also I am going to seey parents at christmas for 3 days so what should I do about feeding her? Can I leave lots of food in the tank?

Your warm end temps are a little cool. What are the cool end temperatures?

She may be laying flat on the floor in order to get all the belly heat she can. Can you add a large overhead dome with a ceramic heat emitter to provide warm and comfortable air temps too?

I would NOT leave extra food running around the tank. That could stress your leo. However, you could use a feeding dish for the food. Make sure your leo has access to fresh water.

Hi I have a Heat mat under the glass floor and on top substrate and I have now turned the temp up for the heat mat to 33 degree Celsius (about 90 farenheight) will this now be ok? Also cool side is about 26-26 degree Celsius.

This sounds good.

Temp recs
ground temp on hot side = 31-34 C
max air temp above max ground = 29.5 C
cool side max air temp = 25 C
min cool side temp = 21 C

It is always a good idea to confirm your thermostat's setting with another thermometer.

Your leo should be spending much of his time soaking up humidity in the humid hide ride over the heat pad.

I have a feeding dish of meal worms in the tank and i tried putting some in front of her on the floor but she just licks it and smells it but it doesn't eat them. I'm worried that it doesn't eat them. Do they normally eat them at night or is there something i need to do?

just an up-date i just fed 1 mealworm to it by waving it around infront of it but it was closing its eyes whilst eating it - i think they are too tough for her? She likes crickets but should i stop feeding her mealworms? what else can i feed her?

thanks.

Best to feed leos at 8 PM or later.

Crickets are more nutritious than mealworms. Mealworms have a chitinous exoskeleton which makes digestion more difficult and impaction via mealworms a possibility.

Which of these feeders can you get: "Feed adult leos 3 times per week and young leos just about every day. For both young leos and adults, lightly dust crickets, roaches, grasshoppers, hornworms, Phoenix worms, silkworms, butterworms (???), and locusts (smallest locusts possible) with phosphorus-free calcium with D3 (and multivitamins) 2 times per week. Keep a shallow dish of 100% pure calcium in the tank 24/7."

I can definately get crickets. But I'm not sure about the others. Grasshoppers maybe but they are for older geckos right? Mines 6 months old so when would you consider it to be an adult?

About 1 year old is adult "age" for leos, but it depends upon size. If the size is good at 1 yo, feedings can be cut back to 3x per week.

You might feed crickets mainly and mealworms just once in awhile.

On the care sheet what does it mean by " do not exceed the maximum wattage of your thermostat?"

Say a thermostat is rated to handle 1,000 watts. So any devices you plug into that thermostat either directly or via a power cord should not exceed the 1,000 watt total.

Here's a picture of my setup. I have a moist plastic hide ontop of the heat mat, a dry hide half on the heatmat and half off, calcium cap, feeding bowl and water bowl.

Yesterday my leo climbed up the background of the vivarium all the way up and she fell (45cm down) do you think she's ok or should i get her checked? Not sure how she landed.

Is she walking around alright since her fall? How is her appetite?

What type of calcium is in the cap?

What are the dimensions of this tank? What type thermometer are you using to measure the temperatures?

In addition to the hides you mention, your leo needs a hide on the cool end of the tank.

She could be climbing to find cooler temperatures. Is there a bulb overhead?

Yeah she is walking fine and calcium is Calci-dust.

It's a 45cmx45cm tank. there's a bulb overhead yeah and the thermometer is digital called Exo-terra.

What brand is your Calci-dust? Can you link it here?

You may wish to add a light dusting with Nutrobal, a vitamin supplement that is available in the UK.
