WTH is this????? (NOT a morph inquiry)

So, Having geckos for around 10 years now, this is the first time I see something like this.... this is NOT a regenerated tail, it´s the "original" one :confused:

As you can see in the close up, it is the original tail, with it´s pores and everything....... Had anyone ever seen something like this?? Could this be due to genetics?? some kind of oniion tail morph??? The gecko belongs to a friend of mine.....

Has he had the gecko since it was a baby? Im just taking a guess that maybe the tail got nipped a little bit and seemed to look original but just when she gained a little weight as it grew it grew differently?

Could have been a mutation that happened in the egg. Not necessarily a genetic issue but an incubation issue.

This one apparently was born like this..... I have seen lately some geckos with oddly short tails, but this is an exageration
