Calcium Supplement Without D3: What Gives?

So over this weekend, I decided to stock up on extra vitamins and supplements for my leopard geckos and some odds and ends for my snake so that I would be ready in case we had another bad snow storm. I needed another container of calcium without D3, and I couldn't believe it. Petco didn't sell it, like period! I have always gotten my supplements there in the past with no trouble, but they didn't even offer a supplement that didn't have D3 in it. I decided to go to another really close pet store just to see if they had it, and they didn't either! Am I missing something here? Is anyone else having this problem in their areas? I'm really concerned because I want to make sure I can actually get the supplement when I need it.

 :scratchhead:

It just seems weird to me that they didn't seem to sell it period. There were no empty spaces on the shelves where it normally would've been. I've never had trouble in the past, so I'm just confused. I will look into those places, though, so thank you! :)

I also had the same problem. Pet Smart as well as Petco did not have the products without D3. I went on line to Amazon and got "NOW" calcium. The cost plus shipping was around 8-9 dollars for a large bottle. I also found my thermostats here. But I suppose you already have those. Shipping only took a few days.... yaya

Have you asked the manager/supervisor of the store about what's going on? They should be able to give you an idea if there's a shortage, or as mentioned, stock rotation. This would also give you the chance to explain the importance of plain calcium, which they may not realize as many are just salespeople, not reptile experts.

Yes I asked about the product and employees just told me what they had was out. I told them you needed calcium without D3 also and they looked at me like I was crazy . But I did not speak to a manager

Sometimes this NOW brand pure calcium carbonate can be found at health foods stores. It is a human-grade product.

There's a million places online to purchase stuff like calcium and they usually have pretty good prices compared to local pet stores. I order almost all of my supplies online. Most of the time you'll get your items in just a couple of days, and it's nice to have it delivered right to your door as well. Petsolutions.com often has great prices, and fast reliable service. But there's a million other places as well. Shop around.

I definitely will now. I've just never had a problem until now, you know? When I think about it, though, it doesn't surprise me because half the time, the people in those pet stores don't know what they're talking about. I did ask the reptile associates and they didn't understand that the calcium supplements need to be rotated and, quite frankly, they treated me like I was stupid and didn't know what I was talking about. That's kind of scary to me.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! :)

I have the same problem at my Petco, except I was told they simply don't sell it at my particular store.

Basically I was told each store has a particular thing it specializes on, my store is Aquatics. She then continued to tell me at the stores that specialize in Reptiles would have much more, including plain Calcium. Otherwise you are out of luck.
