New AFT (Hemytheconyx caudicinctus owner, can´t find a caresheet, multiple questions

Good day!!

I got my new AFT trio yesterday, I have one normal, one albino and one striped and am super happy!!
My friend who gave them to me told me: "They are just like leopards, only brown and a bit bigger" so, I had a leopard gecko like set up ready for them!!

However I was looking for a AFT caresheet here in GU and didn´t find one in the caresheet subforum, I am looking on the internet now, but since this forum has been an amazing source for a lot of experienced owners´ info I wanted to ask to pleople who has kept AFTs for a while.... the setup I have is similar to a leo´s, right now I have them all together in a 14 gallon tank (have had them since last night and I am going to the store right now to buy more enclosures, because I like to kee each animal separately), so, what size should I get??

I keep my leos in paper towel, and I put 3 hides (one cool, one warm and one moist, the moist one I keet on the warm side), I feed insects: roaches, crickets, mealworms, grasshoppers, and an ocasional pinky mice (about 1-2x a year), I keep pure calcium in their enclosure at all times, I dust the food with Cal+D3 once a week and also with Reptivite once every two weeks, they all have UTH and no artificial lights..... what could you advice???? The environmental temps here are about 86F during the day and about 75F during the night and the humidity is about 80% (tropical weather)

My questions are:

Are temps right for them?

How big an enclosure for one adult?

Enough hides?

Is humidity right?

Do they need anything else????

I already bought the tanks, I went for plastic tubs, 30 x 16 inches of floor space (7 inches tall) for each AFT, I hope this is an apropiatte size for them, I believe it is....

The temps sound fine. I find that my AFT's tend to use less of the cage than the leos and spend a lot of their time in their hides, though lately they seem to be making more tours of the cage. Since I live in a drier climate in winter (especially with the forced hot air heat on) I keep mine in planted tanks on coco fiber and mist every morning.

How about tank size and humidity ?? I bought plastic boxes 30" long x 16" wide x 7" tall each one

So that would be 384 sq. in. of floor space. I have 2-3 AFT"s in a 20 long which is 360 sq. in. floor space, so that sounds like enough. I don't really measure humidity with a hygrometer. My enclosures are planted which helps hold the humidity and I most every morning.

Saskia you're no Noob, read through other threads.:nana: Just kidding. I would allow as much space as you would offer a leo. I only have one male who I've only kept for 5 years, but I'll tell you what has worked for me so far.

cool side 70~ warm side 85 (air)
floor temp~88f
humidity~60%

I have half eco-earth, half tile. Other than that, I follow the same care as I do the leos.

I bought another tank so, now I keep all 3 of them separated in 30x16x7 inches tubs, they are eating great, they spend most of their time in their hides (humid and dry), and the albino girl seems to be the most outgoing, I usually see her walking around, and she does not go into her hide when I open the lid, she just looks at me and keeps on with whatever she is doing, the male, on the other hand is quite skittish, and whenever I open the lid he just hisses and opens his mouth in a very threatening way, I do not handle him (I do not handle my reptiles more than I need to in general), the normal girl is just shy, she is usually hidding in one of her caves, she administers her time hehehehe, she doesn´t have one preferred spot, or well, that is what I have seen, I am really liking theese guys, very nice looking and calmed (except for the male)!! I hope I am providing everything they need!

I can't speak in behalf of females, but at least my male AFT appears much calmer than my leos. They hunt a bit slower and it's like his tail wants to wiggle, but it's just so fat it only moves slightly.:biggrin:

Hehehehe well, I have noticed thay are like slow motion geckos hehehe, they move slowly in general (well, compared to my leos at least)
