An additional question though. He's still eating and pooing, so is he OK even though he's in the humid hide? Wouldn't he go off food if all wasn't well?

Also, last night hen I had him on my hand, he decided to go to the toilet - on me and the floor . He's never done this to me before, I just hope he's not chosen my hand as his new toilet area! ;-)

He's still spending a lot of time in the humid hide - in fact he's in there now.
It's a square UTH about a third the length, but not full width. That's on of the reasons the CHE is offset - so the whole end is warm. The glass is on the other side, so if the UTH was full width it would not have a vent space under the glass.

How much of the width is not covered by the UTH? Can you get a larger UTH or a second smaller one?

The glass (cutting board ?) is on the other side.

Don't know how you can resolve the ventilation issue since the UTH is inside the tank.

I'm sure food grade sealants are available in the UK too, but I'm struggling to find one. All the local tile shops (even the ones that sell unsealed tiles too) look at me like I'm mad when I ask for a food-grade sealant. Bacteria are so small they would be able to get into the gaps between the tiles and breed - that's why I'd want to seal them.

I would not worry about the gaps between the tiles. Have you tried Googling for a sealant?

He was unimpressed with the warm hide with no corn cob. When he was active overnight, he basically dug the corn cob back to where he thinks it belongs - inside.

An additional question though. He's still eating and pooing, so is he OK even though he's in the humid hide? Wouldn't he go off food if all wasn't well?

I don't know x 2. Have you a humidity reading from inside the humid hide? How often do you remoisten it? Maybe for Daff it is actually a "dry" warm hide?

I noticed you posted on the thread where Hilde linked this. Did you see the picture of Hilde's melamine tanks?

Yes, I did see this. I'm looking into doing my own version, got to buy another UTH and Thermostat though, plus work out what I can use to raise the glass (what I'm going to use instead of tile) stably and securely, that can also be steam cleaned.

As an aside, I'm also looking into building some "background" and/or a "climbing frame" out of Lego or Duplo or another brand's version. Do you know of anyone doing this?

I don't know of anyone who has done that.
