The leo pictured looks to be of a good size.
I think you'll be happier starting out with an adult while you gain experience with leos.

EF here ;-). $39.99 sounds like a good price for a healthy adult leopard gecko. Special morphs can be priced much higher. It takes about a year or so for a leo to get to a length and weight such as the leo you have pictured in post #1.
