Hey GU!!! I am really nervous but happy. :-? AND  !! I am breeding leopard geckos! Not at the moment, anyway. I have LOTS of questions! I don't have time to post more up here! Please help me... I am not going to be a permanent breeder, probably only breeding once or twice.

QUESTION TIME!!

My questions...
__________________________________________________________________________
.1. Do you need certain morphs to be able to breed them? I'm guessing not, but...
__________________________________________________________________________
.2. Where do you keep hatchlings? Together in a terrarium...???
__________________________________________________________________________
.3. I want female hatchlings. Is the temp to get females 81 F like I think?
__________________________________________________________________________
.4. How old do LGS have to be to breed? One breeder had a 6 month male trying to mate...!
__________________________________________________________________________
.5. What do the hatchlings eat and how much calcium? And no sand, right?
__________________________________________________________________________

I know how to make an incubator. I'm not gonna breed like Ron Tremper or anything crazy... Only 1 time, probably!

Thx, GU! :)

This is beyond the scope of a thread. In general, your geckos have to have the genes to produce the morph you want. For more info, learn what "dominant", "recessive", "co-dominant", "homo/heter-zygous" mean. Check out Leopard Gecko Wiki and the reptile calculator for more info.

They need to be kept separately from their parents, either individually, or at most, in pairs the same size and age. Housing conditions the same as parents except smaller is OK

That's about right.

Ideally females should be at least 9 months (older is better) and 50 grams. Males can be younger but it's possible for a juvie male to attempt to mate but not be fertile yet

small crickets, worms or roaches supplemented with calcium, D3 and vitamins. Right, no sand.

Based on your questions, it seems as if you don't have enough info to breed safely or successfully at the moment. I recommend you do the following:
--if you have any leopard gecko care books, read the breeding section
--google "leopard gecko breeding" and read a lot of care sheets
--read all the posts about breeding in leopard gecko forum

Thanks Aliza! I read every breeding part in every leo book I have! I will keep researching, and about the genes? I don't want a certian morph, so I'm good on that. I read a lot on LGBing and watched a ton of vids about making incubaotors, but none about actually breeding, because I can just ask my good friend who breeds leos and stuff....

Thx!!

It would help to know exactly what you want to know about the genes. If you can formulate a more specific question maybe I can help.
