Live plants in Crested Gecko set up

Hey!
I just went out and got some hydro balls because I want to have a live plant set up? I was wondering if I could use cheese cloth instead of the screen to seperate hydo balls from eco earth? Also I have seen people keep their plants in the pots, and others where they don't even have hydro balls and plant the plants right into the eco earth??
So is it just preference, may be easier to clean if left in pots, or are hydro balls the way to go? As for the plants I have arrow head vine and a prayer plant for now, I also have fern tree panels and some phagnum moss, that I plan to incorperate.
So any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheesecloth should be fine as far as I know. Hydroballs are good either way because with the misting you could use that drainage layer. I plant directly into the coco fiber substrate and I never clean the tank. The isopods do that for me. I rarely see poop in there. I find the most challenging thing about the plants is providing the appropriate amount of light and moisture. Some plants will thrive and some won't. I have my best luck with pothos which is growing in all my planted tanks from the Rhacs to the day geckos to the fat tails.

I have medium zoomed and I'm wondering if I should seel the top to produce higher humidity conditions? I will be planting this like I plant my dart frog vivariums. Darts like high humidity but would this be bad for cresties?

darts like it a bit more damp than cresteds. I would NOT seal the top.

you want misting to happen approximately daily, so there's a big spike in the evening, then it dries out over the course of the next 24 hours or so. you don't want them damp all the time. to keep it nice and clean, it's all about springtails :)

Ya those would work, I have dwarf purple in mine. I have a piece of glass over the screen tops and theres about 2inches left uncovered and I get good humidity in there.
