Hi all,

My 11 month old Leo Bow, has laid 2 infertile eggs over the past month, and it really took a tole on her. Her tail is noticeably getting skinnier, still as wide as her hips, but not the beast of of tail she had before. She is housed with another female 3 months younger, no problems and no fighting over food, etc going on. Should I give it time or should I be worried? Any ideas to fatten her up or interest her more in eating?? :?

P.S. Attached a pic of both, the Leo of concern is the High Yellow on the right...

Thanks y'all!

Egg production is hard on the females, you need to make sure you feeder her well and dust the feeders well with multivitamin supplements. Females often will gorge a bit right after they lay the clutch of eggs. They should eat for a short period of time before they stop eating again, while they get ready to lay another clutch of eggs. If she's eating now, just feeder her well, gut-load the feeders, and dust the feeders with multivitamins at every feeding. I would provider her a good variety, such as a higher fat & meaty feeder like superworms, and high protein feeders like dubia roaches. These combos should help her keep her weight up while she goes through her gravid stages.

If she isn't eating, then there's not much you can do at the moment as she's likely got more eggs developing inside her. Provide a dish of plain calcium without D3 inside the tank.

Great, thanks so much, I appreciate the input. You are pretty much describing the situation exactly. I am sure she will get through it, just needed a little reassurance from someone more experienced.

Thanks again!

I would separate her. she is super stressed out and another leo in the tank is super annoying when your gravid. I would also give her liquid nutrients - Reptaboost. Pay attention to the directions/dosage on there.
I went thru the same thing with Xena. it was heartbreaking, she had no appetite, and she was super stressed out from laying; and losing weight rapidly.
When she was done it took a few months to get her appetite back to where it should be

So my girl laid two eggs again tonight… 90% sure that they are infertile, but I took that opportunity to get them under heat and keep them in moist soil anyway just in case. But I checked the other girl and yes both of them are females...But seriously starting to wonder?! No wonder she's so spent, the two eggs are huge!

Yeah it's amazing the size of the eggs they can push out of their lil bodies. Some of my most petite female breeders lay some of the largest eggs, it's crazy :)

Was she ever put with a male, I mean, did you intentionally breed her? or this is just her laying infertile clutches? If she was not with a male I would think she won´t lay as many eggs
