Looking to get a thermostat

I am looking to get a thermostat for my ZooMed Reptitherm UTH. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations for this type of UTH. There are so many out there and I like to hear others reviews.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

A lot of people on this site (including myself) use this one: Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat For Heat Mats. You can buy it on Amazon for about $30. Super easy to use, works great, and very reliable. :)

SO now that I have the thermostat ordered the red heat light in my Zilla heat/light combo burnt out!!! Luckily the other bulb is still working. I spent $60 on this and the more important bulb blows in exactly a week? Should I buy another bulb and keep this or do I try to get another heat lamp and a day heat light? Open to suggestions and any help...please....

Consider getting a Ceramic Heat Emitting bulb this time around. Although CHEs are more expensive, they last a long time.

When used with an UTH, overhead heating/lighting is accessory.

Wonder why the red bulb burned out so quickly?

I just returned the combo light and purchased another combo one from a different manufacturer. Poor little guy was cold this morning..the 60 watt daytime bulb just wasn't cutting it even with his heat mat. It is so cold outside and we keep the heat on low upstairs so the use of the heat bulb and daylight bulb is necessary. I hope this set lasts longer. The good thing is with this unit I can use a Ceramic bulb and I will be ordering one from amazon shortly.
What a fun week this has been for me :) and a learning one as well.

Ok another question I forgot to ask earlier. What should I set the thermostat at? Also I have tiles on the glass over the heat mat. Do I place the suction cup on the glass under the tile or on top of the tile?

Set the thermostat to 91 F or 92 F. The thermostat's probe goes right on top of your tiles and right under the warm dry hide.

Tape a digital thermometer's probe to the thermostat's probe to double check the thermostat.

So it can go right in the warm hide? The warm hide's bottom is open. Just want to make sure I do this correctly. Thank you for all the help :)

Yes, jamie, you are correct: place your Hydrofarm's probe right on the substrate inside the warm dry hide. Then this probe will measure the temperature closest to what your leo actually feels when he is inside that hide.

You're welcome. I love hearing about leos who are well set up and thriving. :D

I went ahead and set it up and he was out and about and climbed on my hand while I was getting everything ready!! Yay Progress to a Happy Rocky!! I noticed that the temp went down a little when he was on the probe. Should this matter too much? But other than that it seems to be working and I have tested the temp and it seems pretty close.
Once everything is set up and I can get some more photos of him I will start a Rocky thread :)
Many thanks again...I would be lost with out this forum!
