Yeah thanks, I couldn't find any slide dimmers at lowes, and they're retarded, they were like YOU CANT USE LIGHT DIMMERS ON HEATERS. I'm like ugh but thanks! I'm gonna take this one back tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't return the mat because she bought it back in January.

I highly recommend a thermostat. http://www.geckosunlimited.com/community/herp-products/67193-light-dimmer.html

You have access to really nice one in your area. You had posted a link and perhaps removed it? The options toward the bottom of the page you posted were certainly worth investing in. Best to buy good quality which you can rely on. I'm not sure if it was a Micro climate?

I ordered the hydro farm thermostat. Should be here the next few days. I also bought an uth by zoomed. It's a 30gal size who his perfect, next week I'll buy some caves and food / water / calcium dish. It was without d3 correct?

Hi ~

Have you the actual dimensions of your 30 gallon tanks?

I no longer recommend keeping plain calcium in the enclosure at all. For a good explanation why check posts #22 and #48 in the posts following the main Leo Care Sheet linked below.

Lightly dust crickets/dubia with Zoo Med's supplements like this:
1. Monday - Repti-Calcium with D3 on all crickets
2. Thursday - Repti-Calcium with D3 on all crickets
3. Reptivite (multivitamin) with D3/A acetate adjusted for your leo's weight: Spread out the lightly dusted Reptivite with D3 crickets over the course of a week. Use the Reptivite (multivitamin) very sparingly.

If you use a formal gutload product like T-Rex Calcium Plus Food for Crickets or Repashy's SuperLoad on a regular basis and feed a nutritious diet like an all purpose poultry food to insects including Blaptica dubia 24/7, it will no doubt be advisable to tweak the above schedule. Feeding your geckos insects and worms whose entire body is healthy (and not only their guts) is very important! Consider lightly dusting the prey as just icing on the cake.

Continued advice is to feed the crickets a nutritious diet 24/7. Then 48 hours prior to feeding the crickets off to the geckos, feed the crickets only T-REX Calcium Plus Food for Crickets (the only proven gutload formulation as of the 18 July 2013). When using the T-REX Calcium Plus Food for Crickets only provide the crickets with water (damp paper towel), but no fruits or vegetables or they will consume those preferentially over the calcium-enriched diet.

***Current directions (16 May 2013) on Zoo Med's Reptivite with/without D3/A acetate
"Directions for Insectivores: Place crickets in a tall plastic container with a small amount of Reptivite w/D3 and swirl to lightly "dust" crickets with the powder. Feed approximately 12 dusted crickets per week for every 2.5 ounces (71 grams) of body weight."

So if your leo weighs 24 grams, the recommendation would be only 4 lightly dusted crickets per week with Reptivite with D3. Baby leopard geckos weigh much less, so be sure to adjust the dosage accordingly!

Do not exceed the recommended amount of Reptivite per body weight. One real problem in recommending exactly what to do is the size of the crickets fed.

Advice from my exotics vet:
On the 10 June 2013 I visited my exotics veterinarian with my leo and another gecko. The vet recommended Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamin with vitamin D3/A acetate. He stated that only "a little tiny pinch of the multivitamin with D3" should be used 1x per week. He suggested formally gutloading the insects with T-Rex Calcium Plus Food for Crickets. He seemed satisfied that I feed Albers' All Purpose Poultry Feed to my crickets and to my dubia.

I currently use repti calcium with d3 for my tokay. I just wanted to make sure it'd be okay. And alright, I'll also be purchasing some sort of calcium diet for my crickets. That's probably the problem with them, they always die out. Even though I supply water jellies and orange cubes. I need to buy a new kricketkeeper or at least but a tub big enough they can't escape

:yahoo: on Zoo Med's Repti Calcium with D3 lightly dusted 2x per week! Good to add Reptivite too...used sparingly. The Reptivite also contains vitamin A acetate.

SOME of those insect calcium diets do NOT do what they claim at all. Flukers' High Calcium Cricket Food is one of those. :-(

Ah I've been feeding the flukers orange cubes but I have no idea. It doesn't seem to work all that well. As for the container, I'll probably go out and buy something from the container store. I wasn't sure if the one I had was too small or not but thanks for the information. I just want everything to be perfect before I get her. :) so she'll be as comfy as possible.

You're welcome.

An All Purpose Poultry Feed which contains vitamin A acetate from a feed store makes a good dry diet for crickets and dubia. I've been feeding my crickets and dubia this for nearly 4 years.

Is it supposed to be hard to put / remove the heatmats outlet to the thermostat? Cos I had to push it in there and it took a little bit. I got te one Elizabeth recommended, I guess it's safe. But I wanted to make sure.

Hey I bought a little cave and a water dish. I got the thermostat in today and I got a picture of the gecko. http://puu.sh/7mO1f.jpg

Very nice leo! Certainly hope you get her home in one piece! ;-)

The photo backdrop you added on the back of the enclosure will increase her security. Great idea!!!

I suggest more private/secure hides in order for her to feel safe. That's the whole purpose of hides. Here are 2 examples:

Amazon.com: Exo Terra Reptile Cave, Medium: Pet Supplies

Amazon.com: Zoo Med Reptile Shelter 3 in 1 Cave, Medium: Pet Supplies

Don't know whether you've cut the hole out of the plastic hide yet. If you turn it lid up and carve the entry hole ~2 inches off the ground, the moss will stay in better.

Thanks a lot! Yeah I'm going to get her today. I'm probably going to buy a heat emitter too because even with the heat mat it was only 66 degrees in the ground temp. I have a moonlight bulb but I don't think it puts off any heat. If I get the emitter I'll get a light dimmer from Home Depot til it warms up. Which shouldn't be long. But yeah I greatly appriciate all the help. I just wanna get her home and safe.

I got her. Finally. I'm so excited. I put the lamp on the top and it makes it 83 degrees. It's still heating up though. She went and walked around the enclosure and then crawled under te cave and laid down.

Welcome to your new home with Cuppencake, little guy, and to Geckos Unlimited!

You mention that your heating mat is sized for a 30 gallon enclosure. Does it take up about 1/3 the length of your enclosure and as close to the width as possible? Dimensions of this heat mat? Should be doing much, much better than 66*F even by itself.

Some people only use UTHs. Using both under tank and overhead heat provides warm air so that a leo is not glued to the UTH in order to heat up.

PS: Does she have nails at the tips of her toes, especially the left front foot?

Yeah. Its a zoomed heatmat. It was $30 dollars it does cover 1/3 of the tank. It's just been down In the 40s so I got a night bulb. The heatmat finally got hotter. When I take the lamp away it's 83 steady. With the lamp it only gets a couple degrees hotter. I have decided to name her/ him after I can determine the gender. And I haven't noticed if she has nails on the end of her toes. After I brought her home and put her in the tank she's been scared of me. But I'm sure that'll wear off when she's used to the enclosure, I'll give it a few days and gradually get her to trust me. She's actually sleeping right now. And I'm trying not to disturb her. But you know how tedious it is. It's so exciting.
