How did you get started into reptiles?

Hey so I was curious and wanted to know how you got into reptiles?
I'd like to hear how :D

As for me, I got into it because of a dream haha:lol: I know sounds ridiculous,
pretty much I had a dream where my brother got me a baby snake something like a baby corn snake and then I woke up and did some research and now I'm into reptile and have one of my own, haha:lol:

My cabin, when I was little (3-4 years old) my dad would catch frogs and snakes and let me hold them, then when I turned 6 they got me a baby corn snake for my birthday, I have never stopped wanting more pets/reptiles!

Growing up younger sister had a grey rat snake and a few years later the youngest sister started hatching box turtle eggs that she watched being laid in our backyard (normally the racoons would dig them up for snacks). Youngest sister also had a pair of fire newts. I was the sister least likely to have a reptile in her home...

Fast forward about 30 years and my son shows an interest in the Reptile and Amphibian Merit Badge as a Boy Scout. He hasn't finished the badge yet, but has converted me to a Gecko fan. There will be NO snakes in my house.

Cheers, K

I got to hold a yellow rat snake when I was about 5 or 6 at a zoo in S. Florida. I have been studying and collecting herps ever since. Growing up in Florida was great, it is a field herpers dream !

Regrettably, my wife has laid the smack down so no snakes allowed

I wanted my own pet. I always wanted a gecko so I got a leo. :D I wanted something that would be my responsibility, but also not have to give attention to 24/7 like a puppy sense I have school during the day. (I do give attention to my leo) :p

When I was about 6 years old, my dad took me to a Reptile Park in a city 5 hours from where we live, and I got to hold a nice 4 foot long Boa constrictor and I fell in love with them... when I was about 15 years old, I found a baby Boa constrictor in my grandmas back yard and she was very tame and kept her for myself, I had her for about 5 years, and then released her back to the wild... as soon as I could work I found myself a job at a Reptile Zoo in my city as a guide, and I learned a lot about them, and got to know several reptile hobbists/breeders and became friends with them, and soon enough one of them got me a leopard gecko as a present, and I started my gecko collection which has grown from 1 female, to a groupd of 21 right now, now I do not keep snakes out of choice, I can't help to feel really bad for the mice/rats they eat, it is easier to feed crickets and roaches than pretty, sweet white mice.

My son and daughter were both part of a school program called "Kids 'n Critters" where they learn about the reptiles as well as care for them. Mostly snakes, skinks and iguanas. They also bring the reptiles to other school or organizations and present them to people who may normally never see one up close.
They would sometimes bring one home and care for them over school vacations. Kenny was a Kenyan Sand Boa and was a favorite of both.
Sadly the program was dissolved and the reptiles given to other schools but my son wanted Leopard Geckos.
After he bought a pair I became interested and got one for myself.
I've learned quite a bit in a short time thanks to my son and skulking around here absorbing knowledge from those more experienced.

I always wanted a lizard as a pet, so for my college graduation gift my brother bought me 2 leopard geckos!

I started catching fence post lizards as a kid. I got my first corn snake around 12 or 13. Then I owned a few ball pythons, rose boas, uromastyxs, and now I have geckos.

This is my first post, I hope I did it right... Did I? I thought this would be a fun question to start off answering. I got into leopard geckos after I babysat my best friend's lizards. After a week of caring for them, I had to get one. I now have 4 and 2 eggs in the incu. Thanks for being my first post! :)

I've wanted a pet since I was a child, but Mum and Dad always said, since I couldn't look after my plants, I wouldn't look after a pet, so it'd be down to them - which they weren't going to do. Since then I've grown up, moved out, and become allergic to pretty much all furry animals. Almost exactly 2 Years ago, my brother was telling me how his girlfriends son had just had 4 baby leos (or rather his leos had), they'd laid eggs, then put them in the airing cupboard (where everyone siad thy'd die), they hatched. I'd been pondering whether to get myself a reptile (no fur) for a while, and this seemed perfect.

I asked if there were any spare (a couple had already been promised elsewhere), and he said he'd give one to me for my birthday (March), which he'd been trying to figure out what to get me, and he'd buy me all the "bits" for it too. I don't think he quite knew what a leo needed, and he needed help from his girlfriend to make sure he was all set up, Christmas 2012, I got all the set up, and a few days later (so I could get the temps up etc.) I got a now juvenile Daff. He's really cute, and the only reason I haven't another one yet, is I'm about to move house for more room, so am waiting till after I move, then I think Daff will be getting a little friend, maybe I'll even get him a girlfriend!

I've always loved reptiles, and especially enjoyed watching the green anoles run around outside. One event that really kicked off my love for reptiles was a fee years ago. I was about 6 and took a trip to the zoo. Well, some of the workers and volunteers was doing a reptile education thing, and they had a very large snake for the kids to pet and interact with. I thought it was really cool, and since then I've taking a keen interest in all herps. Fast forward to two years ago, I have a little leopard gecko. He's my first reptile and I definitely plan on getting more later on :D

I ended up taking care of my friends crested geckos along with their eggs. One of the eggs hatched while they were still gone and somehow he now happens to live in my bedroom along with his 2 younger sisters. Kind of funny how these things work out now with my friend.
