Leo standing up on Feet

My female leo is up high on her feet, belly off the ground on top of one of the hides in her tank. She has been like that for awhile. She now looks like she is asleep on her feet. She ok? :(

Hi shamilt1 ~

A warm welcome to Geckos Unlimited. :)

What are the temps on the floor of the warm side underneath her warm DRY hide and on the floor of the cool end underneath the cool DRY hide?

How about sharing pictures of your leo and of her enclosure?

She is back down now. She was doing this on top of her hide on the warm side. I notice she keeps doing this whenever the male shows up. Will try to get pics.

Hello,

That is very strange.

I am suspecting this is the male dominating the female, he clearly has the best hide and spot within the hide, however not sure why your female is standing whilst asleep, maybe a defensive posture to stop the male mating her?

You might want to just give them their own enclosures because it might be the presence of the male that is causing her to become stressed and react in this way. It is also best for the long run. Its not a good idea to keep a male and a female together because the male will constantly try to breed with the female, which is stressful for the female.

I have been wondering about that. (Stress from Male), especially as he is significantly larger that her and tends to move all over the place when I get ready to feed them. Will jump in front of her and walk through the feeding dish, etc. I have to move him into another tank to make sure she can eat w/out being bothered. All this has happened w/in the last couple of months and I have had them for around 3 years. Just odd that it has started happening recently. I have taken him out so he can prowl around in another tank I have and I noticed she will be very tentative coming out of the cool hide. Literally tip-toeing like she is afraid that the male is still around. Was planning to anyway but I will get her her own enclosure tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Excellent observations, shamilt1!

Best for each leo to have 3 separate hides each and best, IMO, to house each separately. Then you probably will notice that they spend their time between the warm DRY and warm MOIST hides. Keep both on the warm end of the enclosure. :)
