How Did Your Leopard Geckos(And Other Herps)Get Their Names?

Just for fun :) These stories are always fun to read!

As mentioned in my previous post(story of your first leo), I started planning things long before I got Flynte, name included. I spent hours flipping between tabs of care and name ideas. I wanted something to do with colours, since I enjoy art. At the time, my favorite was the dark grey-ish colour, flint. I messed around with the spelling and softened the "T" sound in it, and thought Flynte sounded adorable. As for his last name, Dakota, that has a more...reptilian reason. When I was really young, I loved playing with the anoles by trying to catch them. Of course, they were all too quick and I couldn't. There was a little female anole that was particularly sweet, and very calm. I "named" her Dakota, because at the time I was watching a TV show I absolutely loved(forget the name of it)and my favorite character had that name, but spelled differently. When it came down to picking a full name, I decided to go with Dakota, named after that little lizard I had found some years earlier.

That's the story as to how Flynte got his name. Share yours, and of course, pictures are always more than welcome!

All of my leopard geckos named have meaning.

Maiyer was orignally supposed to be Maiya, before I found out he was a boy. Maiya means "goddess of spring" or "the great one"
Buki means "weapon" in Japanese, plus another cute meaning
Ava means bird.
Emma is a Germanic name, and I come from a German family. She is also know as pancake, because when she lays down her tummy rounds like a pancake lol :)

My husband started referring to our future gecko as Edgar just as a joke. When we finally got him I said he can't be anything but, so we kept it. :)

I go to the paint store and look up colors in the right range: Kiwi, Saffron, Marigold, Mandarine (color was "mandarin", gecko was female).

My first leo, I had helped from a friend (now my girlfriend) and she named it Cleo if it was a girl and Dexter if it was a boy. My 2nd leo was very skittish and would scream when i misted or put my hand near him. Therefore I called him Pip and it has stuck till this day :)

Edit: First gecko is more then likely a female, so Cleo it is. :)

I named my two in accordance with each other. I love the show Parenthood. The child max on the show has a leopard gecko named guacamole. I thought it was very fitting for a high yellow morph, though We needed an original name. Not sure if the guacamole lead us to our names, but my SHTCT got her name first with Habenjera because of her color. It was habenjero till we discovered she was a she. My high yellow male got fitted with Jalepeno. Great match for Habenjera and he reminds me of a chili pepper.

My children named our geckos. My daughter named Siren because she was so engaging when we first saw her in her tank staring back at us with those liquid black eyes. My son chose the name Valor for our other gecko because of the pronounced white V shape on the top of her head. Both names seemed to suit our beautiful leos quite well.

Here is a photo of them both the day we got them. So adorable :D

I'm a huge Final Fantasy/Dungeons & Dragons/RPG nerd. So, naturally, I named my first two (male and female) Bahamut and Tiamat from DnD/Final Fantasy.

Then there came Yuna whom I named after the main character in FFX.

Then Riku who I named after Kingdom Hearts.

I am a college student residing in the dorms. Naturally the only pets we are allowed to have are fish. LAME! I bought a leopard gecko randomly one day and my mother goes you should name it Anne Frank since you'll have to hide it for a while. As horrible as this sounds it was actually quite funny. I couldn't see my leopard gecko as an Anne (even though it looked female) and Frank was a no no, so Frankie was chosen. After discovering Frankie was a she I still decided hey why not? So now I have my baby girl Frankie!

Haha well she's a very prissy leo...she REFUSES to eat crickets. She ONLY will eat mealworms haha. I just keep the worms in my fridge :)

I got my baby boy Bearded Dragon before my leo and his name is Riker because I love Star Trek and he has a very handsome and manly beard.

I have 3 Leopard Geckos, Oreo, Spotty and Infinity/Flash. Oreo was named Oreo because of his colors, and Spotty because of... well, her spots! Infinity is the original name for the 3rd gecko. He is named this because when we got him, he had what looked like an infinity symbol on his back. He's still growing, and the infinity mark has faded and changed...We also call him Flash, because he's fast!!!

I guess there's generally not some major story behind most of my geckos, but I'll give you guys a rundown on my geckos' names.

My oldest gecko, Lila, I can't remember how I came up with her name, but I am thinking it may have been because she is a blizzard and therefore pinkish, which led to lilac, then Lila.

Then I have Macaroni/Noodle, who is a tremper albino with lots of tangerine coloring. I named her Macaroni after the orange coloring, but her nickname is Noodle.

I then have Elliot, who I named before she was sexed, and by the time I was sure she was female, I liked the name too much to change it!

I also have Ferdinand. My friend actually suggested the name, but when I heard it, it made me think of the children's story Ferdinand the Bull and I knew that had to be his name.

My three juveniles all have fantasy/Celtic type names. Rowan is my mack snow juvenile, Gandalf is my blizzard juvenile, and Guinevere is my snowglow juvenile. I guess I just have been in a fantasy type mood recently!
