I have 2 male leos...

Thanks guys :) I only feed my leos live food to answer an above question. Also, is there any possible way to feed a leo vegetarian? im vegetarian myself so I was wondering if theres a type of food that still has all the nutrition, but is vegetarian?

No. Leopard geckos are insectivores, so feeding them anything but live insects would not only be bad for them, but they probably wouldn't go for it either. They're not interested in food that isn't moving, which is why you'll see them sitting around for a while when stalking their prey, waiting for movement

Where are you getting the live grasshoppers? I've not searched in some time, but to the best of my knowledge, no US-based insect suppliers are breeding grasshoppers for live sale. Something about the USDA having some problems with that if I recall correctly.

I ask as wild insects pose a variety of risks. The greatest of risks are:
  • insecticides or other harmful chemicals that may have been absorbed/consumed
  • internal and external parasites from the insects (grasshoppers) that can potentially infect your pets.

Yes I catch them myself and dust them with vitamins before feeding them to my geckos. This was the primary source of their diet for about 2 or 3 weeks, and them I switched back to superworms due to the fact of Kevin not wanting to chase the grasshoppers. He/She is lazy enough with just worms. They seemed totally fine for a while, but since I switched them back to worms, that's when the health issues showed up. (swelling, diarrhea)

Swelling and diarrhea could be signs of internal disease, be it parasites, non-beneficial bacteria, or both. In all honesty, that is a tad alarming...that said.

I'll need to re-read through this post as my brain's a little fried from a couple interviews I had today. That is unless someone else tosses in some suggestions. One way or another I'll need to do some digging of your post histories to regain the full picture.

if you fed your leos wild insects for a few weeks and then soon afterwards they developed digestion issues, even if you switched to a more appropriate food source, it seems to indicate that your leos picked up parasites from the wild insects (or possibly are ill due to chemical exposure from the insects). I think it would be a good idea to take them to the vet.

I did consider the possibility of health issues stemming from the grasshoppers, but they didn't show any signs of issues during the 2 weeks they were eating grasshoppers. Only about a week after I switched back to super worms is when the issues started. Thinking it may be a bad batch of worms, I bought new ones, but still the same problem.

Hi ~

Please remove any calcium/multivitamin with D3 from the enclosure right away. There is always a chance of overdose. :-(

That could be the cause of Kevin's and Squirt's slightly yellow urates. Pure white urates are normal.

Since you seem to already have Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamin with D3, I suggest also getting Zoo Med's plain (no D3) Repti Calcium. That way you can lightly dust with only calcium more frequently.

I haven't seen any multi vitamin without D3 in my local pet stores. I haven't exactly looked for that specific item, but ive browsed enough to know whats there. Is it safe to order it online? I mean would weather conditions during shipping hurt anything?

During moderate weather (40*F - 80ish*F) I would not worry about ordering online. Check out Amazon or petmountain.com (888-373-8686). I mean, pet stores have to order it too.

Recommend:
Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamin (no D3)
Zoo Med's Repti Calcium with D3

Store away from kitchen or bathroom in a room with temps roughly 59-86 F like in a bedroom.

calcium is a mineral and will not expire or break down, and can be shipped at any temperature that it would be possible for something to be shipped at. so if it's plain calcium with no D3 added it honestly doesn't matter.

as for vitamins, lower temps are just fine, even well below freezing. too much time in the freezer and some of your B vitamins will begin breaking down, but most vitamins tolerate short-terms freezing without any problems at all.
