MBD Suspicions, Please Help!

Yes I am using the same schedule for Butters, and he seems to be perfectly healthy.

I checked Nyx's checkout bill and it says he's actually 87g. He's by no means chunky--except for a nice fat tail--and his limbs actually look kinda ripped. I was looking at the Giant/Super Giants on Ron Tremper's website and I saw some of his geckos with similar lengths (Nyx around 10 inches) and weights, and couldn't help notice that Nyx seemed to fit that category. Again, I don't know for sure since I got him at a local Petsmart, but even as a baby, he was a little larger than the rest of the bunch when I got him. So it's possible he might be a giant.

I am not positive on what the phosphorus levels are in the insects I feed. I know I've been getting my mealworms from Rainbow Mealworms, which have been very high quality compared to anything else I've gotten. It could be that the crickets might be the phosphorus culprit since I get those from the pet store. Again, I'm not positive.

Wow, I should switch to the Zoo Med D3 calcium, I didn't realize the Fluker's had so much.

Will the UVB light still overly interfere with the D3, even with the Zoo Med brand? I'm wondering how much he would really need, considering the possibility that he might be a giant and may get bigger as he reaches a year old. Would giants require more that normal leos?

I may turn up the fan in my room to see if that helps with the temperature. I keep forgetting that now I'm in the south for school, it's much hotter down here.

Nyx unfortunately passed away a few night ago. I was still in the process of treating him with calcium shots as the vet told me.

I could not get him to eat for 2 weeks, yet he was still very pump and not skinny at all. I tried to wait and see if he would leave any signs of droppings so I could get a fecal done for internal parasites, but I was too late.

This past Monday night, I came home after my evening classes to find Nyx completely rolled over onto his back. I had no idea how long he had been like that, but I rushed to get him back on his stomach. There were no indications of bruising or burns on his underside. He was barely breathing, and could barely move; he was very weak and squirming around. He also attempted to roll back over onto his back; I knew I needed to get him to the vet as early as possible in the morning. I moved him over to his warm side and made sure he was as comfy as possible, and I kept and eye on him for a while to make sure he wouldn't roll over again.

I went to sleep for a few hours until the vet was open again, but I went to check on Nyx and he was already gone. I suspected he passed a little bit after I went to sleep as rigor mortis had already set when I went to get him out of his tank.

I found a large oak tree and laid him to rest around some of the roots....I'm really gonna miss him.

Hi Shijadi ~

Very sorry to hear about Nyx's passing. Lovely forever home, now, underneath that giant oak.

Wish we could have helped him. :-(

You need to get her to the vet quick ,my gecko had the same exact problem after laying eggs.i took her to the vet and I syringe feed my gecko Picasso calcium liquid the vet gave me.im guessing your vet will give you the same stuff so youah get nyx to the vet and hopefully she'll recover.i know how it feels to worry about geckos,I spent many sleepless nights worrying about Picasso but after bad times the normal times seem wonderful

hmarie186, I really have no idea what ultimately caused Nyx to die. I suspected that it was something internal, but I don't know for sure. He didn't show any physical deformities or injuries, except for the inability to walk due to his 'minor' MBD, according to the vet. I did want to check for parasites, but with no fecal sample I was out of luck. It may have been a mix of the MBD, lack of eating/drinking, and possibly some underlying internal problem, but I really don't know to be sure. There's nothing I can do about it now... I have to focus on my other gecko, Butters, and make sure he/she doesn't experience the same fate.

Fireclaw147, Nyx has already been dead for several days. I know you probably didn't mean anything and skipped a bunch of posts, but please actually read all the posts on the thread before replying, it's just rubbing more salt into the wound that I really don't need right now. I was previously giving Nyx a weekly calcium shot to reverse his MBD. Also, Nyx was a boy.
