I don't have a car and am not near a pet store. I can't afford the extravagant shipping charges for live arrival of feeder insects in the winter here in Nebraska. How long can a gecko go without food?

I wouldn't go more than 3-4 days. How long have you had your gecko? You can't get a ride? A lizard has to eat to stay healthy (and alive). Seems like maybe this problem could have been foreseen.

A heat pack is about $2 extra in winter time. Order a bunch of mealworms that won't succumb to cooler temps like crickets or silkworms, or order some blue bottle fly larvae from jada bait. They can be stored in the fridge, do not feed them but remove them from the PINE shavings they come in and store in fresh, dry aspen. I rinse mine in warm water after I separate them from the old bedding so the dust isn't still on them. You can get 2 bags of 1000 for $25 shipping included.

You might want to consider breeding your own feeders if acquiring them is an issue for you. Mealworms and dubia roaches are easy to breed and I'm also finding that crickets are relatively simple to breed as well.

Try breeding your own feeders. mealworms seem to be one of the easier colonies to breed but there are other options.

Taking care of animals with live insect eating habits can always be a challenge.

An adult, fully grown and healthy can go a week without food without no problem. longer than that and they will be tapping into fat reserves.
