Future Leopard Gecko owner, what substrate?

You are welcome. I'm sorry that it has been a while.

Can you share a picture of your nearly 2 year old, 90 gram leo?

Does he have any trouble shedding? What is the humidity like in Puerto Rico in your home? Above 60%? If that's true, a humid hide may not be necessary.

  1. A warm moist hide keeps your leo hydrated and makes shedding easy. It can be filled with Eco Earth's coco fiber, sphagnum moss, or paper towels --- all damp to wet.
  2. Is the structure on the left side also a hide? If so, I would put the more private hide on the right side right above the heat pad.
  3. Perhaps he could use a little more heat during the winter? Can you get 31-33*C maximum ground temperature year round?
  4. Do your cool end ground temperatures = the room temperatures?
Suggested temperatures for all leopard geckos regardless of size
  • 88-92 F (31.1-33.3 C) floor/ground temperature right underneath a leo's warm dry hide
  • no greater than 85 F (29.4 C) air temperature - 4 inches above ground on the warm end
  • no greater than 75 F (23.9 C) air temperature - 4 inches above ground on the cool end

The humidity level is normaly at 62% where I live, but when he is up to shed I put him in a tub with moisted towel paper, but it isnt necesary, he had never ever had problems sheding its just I like to do that to make sure he dosen'ts stick shed in his fingers

And here it is! His name is Konan and he's my oldest boy

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited, Konan! You are very handsome!

So that's 62% humidity inside? You do not have air conditioning to dry things out.

Hello handyhens !! paper towel is great for juveniles as they can developpe better muscles when walking on solid grounds without any risks of impaction and the small crickets dont have the chance to hide in the tank !
otherwhise yes tiles are great and have some in my tank at the moment
you can also create a small litter box and "baiting poop" inside so they go in there for theire poop ! its worked great for me, and i ve put sand in theire litter box so thats easier to clena !!
excuse my french : im in france and have auto correct :)

i dont advice reptile carpet as leopard geckos dont like the roughness felling on thes feet and bellies, i knew a case where the leo developped a sort of muscular disfonction because he didint go out and exercise on the carpet ... jus my point of view

Konan has nice coloring, and certainly looks healthy! I would imagine it's challenging to keep leo's in such a tropical area without air conditioning, but he looks like you're doing well for him!

Thanks! It isnt really that challenging, just that this last years it have been a little cold at winter, soo I have to play with temperatures here. But the rest is really nice, dont even need heat pads or anything to make the tubs warm until winter
