red laser pointer

Would it be cruel to use have Gaz chase a red laser pointer like cats do? My temp gun has a laser pointer and when im checking Gaz's tanks temps he gets his hunting eyes, I think it would be cool to watch him chase it, but at the same time that seems mean.

I don't know if it would be cruel, but if you do it I would give him a treat or two. Like a couple mealworms or crickets.

I'd not do this, Kyle or Logan.

My Pro Exotics PE-2 Temp Gun came with these cautions:

1. When the PE-2 is in use, do not look directly into the laser beam. Permanent eye damage may result.
2. Use extreme caution when operating the laser.
3. Never point the laser towards anyone's eyes.

I noticed my Leo chased the Laser when she first saw it also (cute )and like Elizabeth's mine came with the same warnings about possible eye damage.

This is the downside of laser technology becoming so eclectic, it causes us to think of them as toys. So many things can go wrong by misusing these low power lasers. Remember, light reflects off shiny surfaces, like tank glass, and can hurt your pets, or even your own eyes.

geckos are ectotherms. it seems kind of counter-intuitive that you would want to teach yours to chase a "prey item" that isn't really a prey item.

This is very true. Anybody who has been unfortunate enough to have inadvertently had one pointed in their eyes or even catch glare from one can attest to how much discomfort and pain it causes. Now imagine being a 8-9in reptile and having that happen.

I figured it would be cruel because he thinks he chasing food but never gets food. I never thought about it shinning in his eyes because i wouldnt point it directly at him, but it could still happen on accident. Im not going to do it, but thought it would be funny to see if it wasnt thought of as cruel. I thought of it kind of cruel so i wanted to see what you guys thought.
