My leopard gecko has not been eating properly for roughly 2 weeks. I'm not sure on the sex but I call it a girl. She licks her behind and as I said hasn't been eating properly. She normally eats mainly meal worms as well as crickets. I have 2 leopard geckos in one viv so would love advice on whether I need to isolate her from the other and what this may be and how to treat it or if a vet is needed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (Also, I do not hold/ handle my leopard geckos as illustrated in the picture on a regular basis, it was done purely to get the image) thanks. :)

It is almost never a good idea to keep geckos together, geckos can easily bully eachother or if its male on male, fight to wound or kill. Since you dont know the sexes, I highly suggest separating them in the case it does turn out that they are both males. If the one you have shown is younger or smaller or even could be the same, the other gecko could be bullying it into eating nothing or scaring it away from the food. Please check your geckos for wounds as if put even in a mildly dirty tank could cause infestation and infection which can then result to serious illnesses.

Hi, thanks for the reply and advice. Have you any idea what the image is showing? Are you suggesting it may be a wound?? Thanks in advance!! :)

I am by no means sure of this, but to me that does look like a female, and she looks like she has a small prolapse from her vent. Again, I am not sure of either, but someone with much more knowledge will see this and help out soon I'm sure.
If it is a prolapse they will also be able to recommend something to help her out.

Thanks for your advice. I do intent to call some professionals tomorrow and getting their opinion on whether this is something that needs to be treated with medical assistance. Also, thanks for the suggestion of the gecko's gender! Such a lovely community on this site :)

I just wish I could offer more definitive advice. I really hope the issue is nothing serious and can be remedied easily and with very little discomfort to her. The following picture I pulled from a site about sexing Leos.

How old is your gecko? It may be a female, but it also may be too young to tell. My males were about 8 months old before I could see the telltale V shaped line of pores. They were much younger than that when I had to separate them due to aggression issues.
I would agree that that certainly looks like a prolapse, and if you search the forum using that term you will find many posts on the topic. I'm sure I've seen a post with recommended treatment for it recently, if I have a chance to find it I'll link it later unless you get there first.

Hi Leolover21 ~

How has this leo been doing lately?

Were you able to get some K-Y jelly, put a little on a q-tip, and try to ease the tissues back inside? What you picture does not exactly look like an "organ", but then I'm not there.

What size is your viv? I'd suggest separating these little guys too. They will "know" their sexes before you do.

Hi all, still can't get this little Leo to eat. they've been separated for over 24hrs now. She keeps licking at her tail and drinks a lot of water but doesn't eat! She is slowly losing a bit of weight. She's 4 years old.
