Late Hello!

I joined GU a month ago with a need for guidance on a very sick leo, who is doing a lot better now :) Now that I'm not focusing all my attention on getting him better I can introduce myself. I've owned reptiles since 2008. I have 3 leopard geckos, 2 bearded dragons, 1 blue tongue skink and 1 fire skink... names are Mo, Tink, Zuzu, Chestie, Buster, Bookbag, and Spyro  2 are definite rescues and 1 was healthy but had no physical contact in a tiny cage for 5 months. I love reptiles and I love all of my babies! My oldest is going on 7 years old. I love helping others with their reptiles and I have helped a lot. Since many were so helpful to me on this forum when my leo had a very concerning abscess, I plan to give back and help others as much as I was helped :)

Hi ~

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited! :D I'm so glad that leo Mo continues to recover from that abcess and that he's found a good home with you guys.

I believe in karma.

Wow, lucky you to have so many cool pets! Blue tongued skink is definitely one which is on my radar, they are such intelligent pets!

Thank you all!
And Todd- he's my baby! He's the 7 year old and the biggest and oldest of them all. BTS's are amazing reptiles and make wonderful additions to the family :)

I've always liked them, despite the fact that it's the only reptile to ever poop on me, at an expo almost two hours from home! He got me down the front of my shirt and pants! Yet, I still want one!

HAHA! Yes, he has made many many messes... on the bed, in the car, down the back of my shirt but I wouldn't trade him for anything!

Also, THANK YOU Elizabeth Freer for your and everyone else's help with Mo! We had a check up with the vet yesterday and it went amazingly :)

You have some lovely reptile friends! I live in a studio apartment and sadly can't see myself adding many lizards than my current leo, but I always love seeing everyone's collections!

Really glad to hear the sick leo is better!

I lived in a studio apartment, tiniest thing ever, with all seven! It was cramped and stuffy but when I had to move, I knew that a smaller space would only affect me, not them and I wouldn't give them up for anything. I had to wait almost a year before I got a raise at work and moved up to a one bedroom. Now we all have plenty of space and it was totally worth the wait :) I only say this because one of them was in dire need of a new home (Mo) and although it seemed painful to take in a seventh reptile knowing what little space I had, his recovery has made it all the more rewarding. Just incase you one day find yourself in a similar situation and feel like you want to help but cant :)

Good to know it's possible! Rental prices are high in the Bay Area and I live in a rent controlled apartment, so I could end up being here for a while!

Sometimes I think about getting another leopard gecko, or maybe a beardie, as I could have two cages on top of each other in the same vertical space with the proper shelving. But even with getting a free cage and inheriting my current leo from my mom, I still feel like I poured a few hundred dollars into getting things set up for Scooter. If anyone else joins my lizard collection, I want to make sure I can properly provide for them!

That is AWESOME to hear! As strange as that may sound. Many people don't consider all of the money that goes into a reptile- possible medical expenses, food, equipment.. you know haha. It's always awesome to hear someone who puts necessities before wants and knows what's best for a reptile. I've seen a lot of people who buy a reptile and can't afford the right set up or neglect it because they didn't think it would require so much care or put it at huge risk because they don't want to pay a medical bill they didn't see coming. It's really sad to hear sometimes
