Feeding questions

I have 2 leopard gecko females. One is 2 and the other 2 and a half. I feed them 4 super sized mealworms every other day(they won't eat crickets). They are both really fat and healthy. Is this too much? I also have a male juvenile leo(about 2 months) that I feed twice a day. I feed him about 3 or 4 crickets and occasionally a mealworm. Should I feed him more/less? And when should I start feeding him once a day and then every other day? Thanks!

Hi ~

In general it's best to continue husbandry type questions on a single thread. That's to lessen repeated questions and advice. It makes life easier all around. :)

Please share pictures of these leos. That really helps us out.

What size enclosures have they all?

Your juvenile can be fed once a day in the evening all it can eat in about 15-20 minutes. Each leo has a different growth rate. The mature weight depends upon whether the leo is a normal or a giant. 60ish grams for a normal @ about 1 year old is a good time to switch to every other day. Leos continue to grow longer and put on weight till they are about 18 months old.

Please share what you feed the mealworms, how you use powdered supplements, and which supplements you use. The better the diet the mealworms get, the less you wish to supplement.

Why would you suggest keeping it all in one thread? The other thread is a health related question, in the Health & Diseases subforum. This one is food related, in the Food & Feeding Issues.

It's perfectly okay to use the proper subforum, nothing wrong with that.

It's easy, Hilde. All husbandry overlaps. Proper husbandry lessens health issues.

Chasing threads eats up time. All we have is time, not enough time to go around. :/

The other reason is that some members love reading the history of a particular leo.

This is a simple feeding question. It doesn't overlap with the health question. You're turning it into more than was necessary by asking all kinds of husbandry questions. Why does the enclosure size have anything to do with the amount of food to offer, or how often? Supplements and gutloading don't apply here either.
It's a plain and simple feeding question. No overlap with health or housing.
It's perfectly okay to keep those two threads separate, in the subforums they're in.
