Introducing Ringo!

So excited to see if his/her pattern changes much....any thoughts? We adopted Ringo about a month ago from our local Petsmart. The woman we dealt with is so knowledgeable and very helpful! Well, from what I remember, around a year old is when the bands (like the white one near his head) fade out and just spots remain. I forget where I read that info though... However if you are sure Ringo is a male then he should be at least 6months old. Determining the sex of a Leo before that age is tricky at best.

Ringo sure is cute. Try getting a length measurement on him, that can also help somewhat determine and estimate on age as well. Take a look at the undercarriage and see if you can find pores and bulges near his vent.

Thank you all! Silly question - do I include his tail in a length measurement? I keep trying to look at his underside, but we are so new to the gecko world and could use a lesson in how to handle him so that his underside is visible. He's pretty mellow, but when we try to look at his belly he just climbs up so that it's no longer visible....haha. We have no idea of "HE" is really a he.....just hoping lol

Also there is a really thin but prominent bright orange band beginning to show right at the start of his tail. Hoping he starts to turn more orange in color :)

Google leopard gecko sexing and some images will pop up with what to look for in males. Include his tail in the length measurement, they don't really hold still for it but a good guess is better than nothing. You can also use that to track "his" growth, along with weights. You can pick up a decent digital gram scale at Walmart for $10-15 in the kitchen section.

Here is a photo that you may find useful to be sure Ringo is in fact a He. I was able to check by getting mine onto my fingers and then slowly spreading my fingers apart so I could look at the underside. Might work if Ringo isn't really active.

Aside from that, you would be surprised at how tough it is for us humans to guess at small weights. My female weighs just over 40 grams but feels like she isn't even there when I hold her. Like Jess said, the kitchen scales at walmart are great. Plus it helps us keep track of weight gain, feeding issues, etc. I have a notebook for each Leo that are full of daily info on weights, how much they ate, even if they pooped. If we ever have to take our Leo to a vet, it is a great idea to give them as much info as possible.

I hope the orange does come through more :) I love the tangerine and sunglow morphs. Have been thinking about getting one when I have the space.

I agree with Cory, I would say around the 6 month mark, but these are just guesses. He still has plenty of bands that will eventually fade and I'm no good with morphs so I couldn't tell you what "he" might be.
