Leo's right eye has puss in it and looks darker

My leopard Gecko is almost 3 now. He has been keeping his eye closed more than usual even when he's walking. it looks a little dilated and the corner of his eye is darker than the other one it also looks kind of foggy with pus I don't know what to do I try cleaning it with sterile eyedrops and a Q-tip but he won't let me put it in his eye... please help I don't want to go to the vet

The reality is he almost certainly needs to see a Vet, whether or not you want to doesn't really come in to it I'm afraid.

I could make a number of 'guesses' here for you and could advise short term measures, but that is all they are, no matter what 'cursory-diagnosis' I may make, the condition will need treatment regardless.

If this continues for more than a couple more days you need to take him right away, these sorts of issues rarely resolve themselves positively over extended periods, if it was loose particulate he would likely have worked it loose within a week max so this would indicate something more concerning is at play.

Any further time wasted will place more risk on his vision long term.

Are you using some multivitamins regularly? What are you feeding your gecko? What do you feed the bugs and worms?

Cloudy eyes might result from a vitamin A deficiency.

Leo's eye getting worse

It's bloodshot .... Have a film like go in the corner of his eye ... He had trouble shedding about a week ago .. I try putting eyedrops in but they don't seem to be helping I don't have the money for a vet right now what can I do any home remedies :sad:

A vet may be the only option. Pus is a sure sign of infection. Perhaps a local rescue can help?

Try gently flushing the eye with normal saline from a squeeze bottle. That may be more thorough than trying to remove pus with a q-tip.

If it's stuck shed, try a humidity chamber.

Do you lightly dust his bugs or worms with multivitamins regularly?

#4---Humidity Chamber Assists for stuck shed on a gecko's body, toes, & eyes

Be sure to monitor your gecko at all times during these procedures.

Place your gecko in a Humidity Chamber for an hour or so to loosen stuck shed on eyes, toes, and/or body.

If the eyes have retained shed, gently flush them with a normal saline solution. Fill a small squeeze bottle with a contact lens wetting solution such as Blink for Contacts NOT a contact lens CLEANER. Aim the flow towards the eyes. Alternatively, saturate a small sterile gauze pad with normal saline. Gently hold this against the eyes for several minutes.

If these methods are ineffective or if there are any signs of infection, seek vet attention immediately!

METHOD #1

• Temperatures no greater than 86*F/30*C, a leopard gecko's preferred body temperature.
• Take a plastic container (like a GladWare container) a little bigger than your gecko
• Poke holes in the lid so that your gecko can breathe
• Add a little water up to the belly of your leopard gecko. If your gecko is smaller, then use scrunched up paper towels that have been dampened or sprayed to maintain the necessary humidity. Include a rough rock or a small piece of cork back with the damp paper towels.
• Spray the insides of this container
• Add the gecko
• Snap on the lid
• Place this container inside your leo's enclosure and right next to the warm dry hide (right above the heat mat). OR Place this container near a lamp containing a low wattage bulb (15 watt or 25 watt incandescent bulb or similar wattage compact fluorescent). Water droplets should form on the insides of your plastic container!
• Monitor the temperature frequently

• Repeat this procedure, if necessary.

After 30 minutes, perhaps longer, remove the gecko and gently attempt to remove the stuck shed using a gentle rolling motion with a wet q-tip.

I see both your photo and replies. That's an excellent photo! Thank you so much! I am not a vet. If his right eye is infected, he needs antibiotics to cure it.

You mentioned you saw pus. That's a sign of infection.

Please follow the steps above for the Humidity Chamber and for flushing with the sterile eye drops right away. Blink Wetting Solution for Contact Lenses or a normal saline solution are two options for flushing his right eye. Don't use contact lens cleaning solution!

When can you try that /\?

What type and brand of vitamins and/or other supplements do you use? Please let me know. instead of leaving vitamins in a small dish in the cage, it is much better to lightly dust the vitamins onto bugs or worms. It is easy.

This one? Exo Terra : Calcium + D3 / Calcium + D3 Powder Supplement

There is a chance of overdose if you leave the calcium + D3 in a dish.

Leopard geckos need a little multivitamins as well. Don't rush out to buy one. Let us recommend some good ones.
