How do you move and check a day gecko?

I currently have a couple of crested geckos, and have been wondering if I should set up a large heavely planted terrarium in the livingroom. I am considering a giant day gecko for this terrarium, but I'm concerned about handeling them. I know they don't like handeling, and can damage the skin if you grab them. But how then do you go about stuff like moving them to a box for cleaning or redoing the terrarium, moving them from on terra to the other? I also have helped my crested shed a couple of times, and like to take them out to weight them and give them a good checkover every now and then. I'm worried it will be difficuly to monitor health and do a good cleanup if I'm unable to handle them at all.

What do people here do when moving them or taking them to the vet?

A warm welcome to Geckos Unlimited.

One way to successfully move skittish geckos like Phelsuma is to guide them into a 32 ounce deli cup that has holes for breathing.

Be ready with the lid!

I had trouble to move the Phel into another box, I tried many times and failed, because the Phel runs away and stresses about the box. Then I came up with another way. I use a reptile jar, put there a couple of small Dubias or any other insect that can't climb on smooth surfaces. I get the jar closer to the Phel and she jumps in to hunt the insects, and I just close the lid.

For short periods I simply leave her there. If I need to move her for significant period of time, I
gently shake her out into a bigger ventilated box, such as Exo Terra Breeding.

I bought the jar here - size L - 18x10cm
Very helpful, not stressful for the Phelsuma ))))
