Yesterday I went to a reptile expo and picked up a new baby gecko! It's a three month old tangerine het for some cool stuff (not a breeder though), and incubated at 87 degrees so it could be either sex. I call it a "he" for now though lol.
When I put him in the tank I set up beforehand (just a ten gallon for now, but I'm building a terrarium with 40 gallon dimensions for him to grow into), he spent some time roaming and then had a nap in the cool hide, which he seems obsessed with trying to climb on top of.
Overnight he ate all five of the dusted mealworms I put in his bowl and dug half the coconut fiber out of his humid hide.... little scamp. Guess I'll have to use paper towels for that from now on!
So far he's pretty skittish; he ducked into the warm hide when I came over to mist his water bowl and humid hide, and ever since he's been watching me with his head poked out from across the room (and hiding whenever he sees me move). I plan to work on taming a little bit after he's been eating and pooping for a few days; tips are greatly appreciated!
