Cheap and easy crested gecko hide

I was searching around the dollar tree today, came across "terrarium planters" and knew it would be a perfect hanging hide for a crested gecko with little work to make it finished. I plan on coating it in a water proof non toxic sealant, then rolling in some eco dirt that I have(it's used as a substrate so it's safe)Maybe this could help someone else as well. When done I will post pics.

I just got one of these and tied it to my gecko's climbing branch. One can poke twine through it and sort of lace/sew it to the branch so it doesn't sway if that's not wanted. I soaked it a bit before I put it in there, to make it softer. It's her new favourite spot.

I am thinking of getting another and trying that thing where you put moss and buttermilk or beer in a blender and then use the resulting goop like paint to make 'moss graffiti' to make a live moss-ball gecko hide.

Except it was three bucks at Petsmart in the hamster/gerbil/mouse section, and a different brand, but I threw away the label and can't remember the name.

If you get one get it wet, sisal is really hydroscopic so if you put it in dry it will drop the humidity in your enclosure. (But added damp and kept misted that same hydroscopic-ness should make it help keep the tank more humid and more stably so.)

:yahoo: for PetSmart!

How often does it need soaking?

I appreciate all your details.

I don't know, I just bought it a couple of days ago. I figure I'll just mist it heavily and poke it from time to time (when my wee beastie is hiding under a plant instead, or slyly while it's asleep) to see how the little basket thing is holding up. Eventually it'll rot.

The tank used to have a lot of pothos, but it was in a sorry state when I came by the bowl-o-plants so I just replanted, and then needed a midway-up hiding spot while stuff grows. Greebo used to hang out under where the leaves of the pothos shaded the climbing stick in there. I fuss around with the foliage and with hides to make lurking spots in a few different positions in relation to the heat lamp, the plant-light, and the soil substrate that's the source of most of the humidity in there, so there's some choice of conditions.
