Feeding Questions

I'm planning on getting a gecko (I have the enclosure set up), but I just need the answer to these questions.

(I'm getting a baby, so please fit the answers to that!)

How much should I feed them?

How many types of insects should I feed them (and what types)?

How many insects should I feed them?

Do I feed them one type of insect each feeding or should I mix them?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to GU and congrats on your coming gecko. Be aware that there is more than one way to do things, so you will get different answers to your questions. I recommend in general that you start out trying something and see how it goes. Here are my answers to your questions:

How much should I feed them?
Feed them as much as they will eat in about 30minutes. If you're feeding mealworms, you can keep a bowl of them around all the time. If you're feeding crickets or roaches, put about 4 in and see what happens. If the gecko eats them all, put a few more in and see how many it takes before it loses interest. eventually you'll figure out the right number.

How many types of insects should I feed them (and what types)?
The most common feeders are mealworms, crickets, super worms and dubia roaches. I try to alternate between 2 different feeders (currently using super worms and crickets). Some geckos don't like some of the feeders. Start with 1 or 2 types of feeder and see what your gecko likes. Ask the place you get it from what the gecko is used to eating.

How many insects should I feed them?
See above for my answer (first question)

Do I feed them one type of insect each feeding or should I mix them?

You can do it either way, but I think mixing them gets confusing and they are harder to keep track of.

What type of gecko are you getting? I am assuming a leopard gecko. But if a crestie, mealworms are not good for them, so just checking to make sure you get the right answers.
