Leopard gecko always in one hide

Hi everyone! I recently got my adult leopard gecko a 40 gallon tank. He has 4 different hides and many decorations but particularly likes his humid hide. It is not because it is humid, (because I only spray it when he is about to shed) but I think it is because it is dark. Today I took it out so he could explore his other hides. Do you think this is a good idea? What should I do?

I don't think it's a terrible idea to move it around a bit, but I also find that these geckos like what they like. Sometimes they like something exclusively for awhile and then move on to something else.

I would leave it in there. You never know if they move around and use different hides during the day when you are not there or the middle of the night. The amount of time we actually are watching them is relatively small in a 24 hr day. Best to give them all options, as long as the temps and humidity are all correct. Geckos hate change. Taking away a hide or moving things around can be enough to set them off of their appetite for a few days. It's been known to happen.

Hello! Yes, that does happen. My leopard gecko is in a 20 gallon long tank with 3 hides, and she stays in her warm hide most of the time. I don’t think it’s a horrible idea to take out the humid hide every now and then. I take her warm hide out sometimes to let mine go to the other hides and be active. I hope this helps!
